Publisher's Summary

Two sisters raised in fear are about to find out why in a chilling novel of psychological suspense from the author of The Thinnest Air.

Ignorant of civilization and cautioned against its evils, nineteen-year-old Wren and her two sisters, Sage and Evie, were raised in off-the-grid isolation in a primitive cabin in upstate New York. When the youngest grows gravely ill, their mother leaves with the child to get help from a nearby town. And they never return.

As months pass, hope vanishes. Supplies are low. Livestock are dying. A brutal winter is bearing down. Then comes the stranger. He claims to be looking for the girls’ mother, and he’s not leaving without them.

To escape, Wren and her sister must break the rule they’ve grown up with: never go beyond the forest.

Past the thicket of dread, they come upon a house on the other side of the pines. This is where Wren and Sage must confront something more chilling than the unknowable. They’ll discover what’s been hidden from them, what they’re running from, and the secrets that have left them in the dark their entire lives.

Amazing

Very intense. I love how complicated a story it is. the easy way it's brought together.

Still waiting......

Still waiting for Minka Kent to write another "5-star" book. Unfortunately, THE STILLWATER GIRLS did not even come close to earning "5 stars" from me. The plot was very, very contrived and lacked credibility: 1) The way the author had the two families meeting was not very believable. 2) The husband's secret was preposterous and was also not very believable. My very, very favorite Minka Kent book was THE THINNEST AIR. Minka Kent's books have gotten better with each new release but this book was an exception.

Sadly....

I just couldn't get into this book. I loved the thinnest air & was very excited for this book. But, no it was a real snooze.

Did I enjoy this?

This book was good but the conclusion was a little too coincidental. The husband's big secret was just crazy. Who keeps something like that a secret?

This book is not good.

This is probably the worst book I’ve heard on audible. The story is ridiculous, but not in a good way. This author totally phoned it in.

Don’t listen to the bad reviews

This book was an amazing journey! The writer did such a great job that I almost felt what the main character felt. Never could have guessed the ending!

Easy vacation read.

This is a good -sit on the beach- read. Doesn't require much mental involvement and the plot moves along fairly smoothly. By the time you're finished with the book you can easily transition into something else.

All the Stars

This book was sooooo good! It had everything I love ... mystery, family drama, likable characters, fast moving, & surprises. The narration was excellent. My only complaint ... it had to end.

Plot twist!!

The first third of the book was pretty slow at times but then it really picked up. Did great job of alternate voices of wren and Nicolette. Was easy to follow. Would buy from this author again.

Engaging book

I throughly enjoyed every moment of this book. It was so hard to put down I ended up getting to sleep at 2am. The characters were engaging and I really felt sympathetic toward them. It had quite a few twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and that is unusual in itself as I can usually predict the plot.
