Publisher's Summary

Recovering from a shooting, LAPD witch consultant Sophie Ross leaves her job and travels to the UK to search for answers about her childhood. When she encounters a Daoine Sidhe knight of the Dark Court, she becomes entangled in an ancient hatred between two arcane forces.

Barred from his homeland along with his surviving brother knights, Nikolas Sevigny is embroiled in a conflict that threatens everything he holds dear. Only by uniting his people's resources can they hope to prevail against Isabeau, the deadly Queen of the Light Court. He will do anything and use anyone to return home to Lyonesse.

When Nikolas encounters Sophie, he sees a tool to be used. The insouciant witch might be the key to unlocking every passageway that has been barred to the knights of the Dark Court, even as a fascination for her takes root in what's left of his soul.

Sophie has no intention of becoming anyone's pawn, yet the fierce Nikolas is so compelling, she can't deny the temptation that endangers her guarded heart.

As magic threatens Lyonesse, Queen Isabeau unleashes her merciless hounds, and Nikolas and Sophie become embroiled in a race for survival. Meanwhile, the passion that ignites between them burns too hot to be denied and quickly turns into obsession.

Thank goodness they both know better than to fall in love....

It could have been a 4 but...

Would you listen to Moonshadow again? Why?

No, I usually don't

Would you be willing to try another book from Thea Harrison? Why or why not?

Yes. Love her world and characters (main and side)

Which scene was your favorite?

The action in old house when all the characters came together to find the shifts. The interactions with Sophie and Robyn, I loved their relationship! And I loved his character

Any additional comments?

Please STOP repeatedly using the words glare, glower and imperious.. They were used so often they took me out of a great story, due to their repetitiveness! Please STOP making your female characters so unlikable at times they are unreadable. Sophie was both endearing at times and at others so OTT it made it extremely hard to like her. It was as if she had a split personality. I understand there needs to be bumps in the road, but I felt her "independence" tantrums were over done to point they made her sweet nature turn vile and contemptuous. Please don't continue this. Women can be independent without being ugly.

Loved it!

I wanted to title this review "Nope!" but was afraid to confuse people. What a fun book! Sophie and Nik are two of the most fun characters I've read in awhile and like all of Harrison's books, this one had sexy heat to spare! The story was a nice spin on the existing Elder races world, the side characters were fabulous, and I just want to go back and reread because it would feel like a warm snuggly blanket.

As always, Sophie Eastlake does a brilliant job with the narration. She does men's voices especially well--Nik was super sexy--and she's got great timing.

Definitely recommend!

Nic and Sophie are great together!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I deliberately did not read more than the first few sentences of the summary to have some element of the unexpected in the story. I was not disappointed. Unlike many other fantasy story lines the villain did not take up the entire plot and the romance was heated without being vulgar. I truly enjoyed this story and would recommend it highly.

What other book might you compare Moonshadow to and why?

Fantasy Land because the female lead was strong and likable. But unlike fantasy land the male lead was well crafted and appealing.

Which character – as performed by Sophie Eastlake – was your favorite?

Nick most definitely. He loved in a big way. Friends family and lover. That came across without a lot of back story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part when Puc came to say goodbye.

Any additional comments?

I would like to see Puc in more stories he is a great addition.

Please Write Faster Thea!

This is an AMAZING book. The only problem is that I need a few more new Elder Race stories as this one has re-wet my appetite. Please write faster Thea!

Just OK..

At 80% I was wondering if I’d ever like Sophie! She called Nikolas “A-hole” 34 times during this book. It was a little funny at first but after about 15 times it got completely ridiculous. AND she was such a smart-aleck. She just refused to listen to him when he was only telling her not to do something that could get her killed, I couldn't understand why Nik didn't just dump her. I can’t stand that “I can take care of myself” attitude that authors give the heroines, no matter how many times it makes her TSTL. I loved Nikolas’s character but I really couldn’t like Sophie. She was part Djinn but she wasn’t really magical. She could read runes, which she did once and cast spells but a little more magic from her might have made her bearable. She was the one who was the A-hole all the way through the book. I like snarky but I don’t like heroines who are simply b**ches through the whole story.

If it hadn't been for Nik and his men, Gawain, Braden, Cael, Gareth, Rhys, Thorne, Ashe and Rowen I doubt I would have finished this book. I liked Sophie up until she met Nik, then I stopped caring anything about her at all.

There are 2 or 3 explicit sex scenes and the F-bomb was used 70 times.

I’m going to assume there will be 6 or more other books in this series, to hunt down Morgan since he got away in the last of this book. But I probably won’t read them. I did read Dragon Bound in 2013 and I absolutely loved it but I stopped there because the rest of the books are too expensive. I mean, really, the second book Storm’s Heart from 2011 is $9.00. There are too many other great books out there for less than half that amount so I’m sure this new part of the series will be priced the same.

As to the narration: Sophie Eastlake is a good narrator, as far as voices go, but she really is terrible at reading with any kind of emotions. She doesn’t laugh or cry or whisper or anything that would make her the perfect female narrator.

2 star story. Very good Narration

Hmmm. Don't know what all the hype is with this book. It started out decent then went down hill. The insta lust and overly done sex scenes was a bit much and took up too much of the story. Started thinking I was reading a Lauren Blakely book. Sex, sex, sex, a little story then some more sex, sex, and sex. UGH! It was aggravating. I like sex in the story, not story between the sex.

The story line and plot was just okay, it had potential but then it seemed to be all about the sex. Not to mention Sophie was pretty much a biotch for most of the book. She was not a likable character at all. Nickolas was nothing to write home about either. They just didn't click for me at all. Forced relationship between these two. The world building was rather dull and boring to me too. Sorry Thea Harrison this was a total miss for me.

I did like Robyn though. He was my favorite character, dog, monkey, sprite, whatever he is. I like him.

As for the narration it was great. I am Sophie Eastlake fan for sure. She does such a great job on the men's voices. She reads with emotion and gives everyone their own distinct voice. She has a very nice reading voice and is a pleasure to listen too.

Love it

I have listened to this book at least 5 times. I just love it. Sophie’s snark always makes me laugh. Nicholas’s mystification about “modern women” is wonderful. The interaction between characters is perfect. I can close my eyes and almost see the scene while the narrator speaks. That the narrator is named Sophie makes me laugh.
The ending is perfect as well. The story ends, but leaves you ready for book 2. Not a cliff hanger, just one thread leading on. Perfect.

Very good romantic listen!

Love this book! Reminds me a lot of my own marriage with regards to the relationship dynamics. Great story full of mystery, supernaturals, battle, humor, love, betrayal, & steamy well described intimate moments! The characters are likable and believable. The storyline is attention grabbing and its a story you’ll want to get back to each time you have to pause. The narrator did a an awesome job of providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene.

Love the narration. Story still be good for some.

I try and listen to everything Sophie Eastlake. love her narration. This Thea book was a miss for me. The characters felt off to me and seemed to contradict their personalities every now and then. still a good once thru, and most fans I've talked to really enjoyed the book. it just didn't work for me. :-(. I'm giving the story a 3star because I still love Thea and her very creative story telling.

Moonshadow

What made the experience of listening to Moonshadow the most enjoyable?

Good strong story and characters, spoilt for me by all the sex.It is strong enough to stand without that.

I am in love

I loved this book so so much, I'm really, really, really sad it's ended!
It had every emotion under the sun in it. I laughed sighed, oowed and ared.
Loved it when Nicholas kissed Sophie to silence her. I actually shouted at my audio as a listened 'just kiss her for god sake' and then he did....
I cannot wait for more
Thea Harrison you are a great writer I am in Aw of you
