Moby Dick

By: Herman Melville
Narrated by: Frank Muller

Publisher's summary

Its famous opening line, "Call me Ishmael," dramatic in its stark simplicity, begins an epic that is widely regarded as the greatest novel ever written by an American. Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.

When Melville's father died in 1832, the young man's financial security went, too. For a while he turned to school mastering and clerking but failed to make a sustainable income. In 1840 he signed up on the whaler, Acushnet, out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. He was just 21. A whaler's life turned out to be both arduous and dangerous, and in 1842 Melville deserted ship. Out of this experience and a wealth of printed sources, Melville crafted his masterpiece.

You get what you pay for...?

I saw this advertised as Moby Dick "Unabridged" and did not immediately see that it was only 4 minutes long. This is the second time a book has been labeled unabridged instead of sample. I would love to remove this from my library, but audible doesn't allow it to be removed. Just taking out my frustration by writing this review. I wish I saw the other reviews first.

Only four minutes of the book- what the heck!

I was hoping for more than just half a page. There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with this audiobook.

A 4 minute clip...NOT the full book

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one would enjoy this, because it is a bait and switch.

Would you be willing to try another one of Frank Muller’s performances?

Not if it's only for 4 minutes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger at a 4 minute clip of a book being falsely presented as a full book.

Only 4 Minutes!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

When I downloaded it I read that it said it was the UNABRIDGED version! Why was it only four minutes? If it had said "sample" I wouldn't have gotten it!
