Publisher's summary

Following on from the events begun in A Falcon Flies, Men of Men continues Wilbur Smith's epic story of the Ballantynes.

It is the age of empire, of blood and conquest, of boundless excitement and possibility. Striding in the footsteps of the pioneers is Zouga Ballantyne. His dream begins in the danger and drudgery of the diamond pits and ends up on the rich grasslands of Matabeleland - but not before a king and a proud warrior nation have paid the price of history....

Men of Men is followed by The Angels Weep and The Leopard Hunts in the Darkness.

A great story!

Really enjoyed the book; just a pity the narrator didn’t pronounce places and names correctly. Still a great listen though.

Good book

This was a well written book, kept me glued to it from start to finish. It makes you angry to hear how Africans were duped and massacred but I guess that's history. Also abit disappointed that evil seems to flourish and the bad people thrive. But overall it's an interesting book and the narrator was good.

Epic Continuation

After waiting so long to have English translated audiobooks from Wilbur Smith having listened to this almost straight thru I can't wait to start the next. Wilbur Smith has always been a favorite of mine and armed with the knowledge of unabridged versions now being released I can't wait for the next issuing pre-ordered copies as soon as they are available. Worthy of many listeners for historical reference and spellbinding tales alike there's something for everyone in this series!

Great book, ruined by the narrators accent

It's beyond me how one can take a historical epic like this, from an author of this stature, and ruin it by using a narrator who has no idea how to pronounce historical names and places.

What's more, his attempt at African accents is just laughable, it sounds nothing like an African accent

Could do much better performance wise

Outstanding African novel.

Great novel depicting the early white settlement of Africa. Also Kudos to the proper history of the subjugation of the native black tribes.

I gave up about half way thru.

The subject of Africa during that time period is a very interesting one, and both the writing and narration are excellent. But there's not enough excitement for a book this long. Even though I have several other books in this series, (that I got in sale for $3.50), I think I'm quitting. I may try the other series I have by Wilbur Smith,

Africa's early history with the English

This historical fiction teaches as it entertains us. The stories cause us to remember many characters and should you find yourself having to take too much time between your listening sessions, you may have some issues with which character is doing what and why. Read three of Wilber's books so far, but need a break. Cheers, Ken
