Publisher's Summary

Narnia...where anything can happen (and most often does) and where the adventure begins.

The Dawn Treader is the first ship Narnia has seen in centuries. King Caspian has built it for his first voyage to find the seven lords, good men whom his evil uncle Miraz banished when he usurped the throne. The journey takes Edmund, Lucy, their cousin Eustace, and Caspian to the Eastern Islands, beyond the Silver Sea, toward Aslan's country at the End of the World.

This was the third book written in The Chronicles of Narnia. It now stands as the fifth book in the series.

Don't miss any of the books in C.S. Lewis' classic Chronicles of Narnia series.

    "shrill mouse voice"

This is a good one, except for the voice of Reepicheep, which becomes painful at points. Too bad since he is such a central character!

"Reepicheep is not a cartoon mouse!"

I was not a fan of this narrator because of Reepicheep. I didn't really care for him otherwise, but his voice for Reepicheep was very distracting. I know his voice is supposed to be shrill, but this was too much like the mice in the Three Blind Mouseketeers. It must be challenging to make a mouse voice that sounds dignified, but I believe it could have been done much better. The narrator in the last book did a better job.

    "Best narration EVER"
Would you listen to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader again? Why?

I will listen to this book over and over and over for 2 main reasons: the first is the story. The Chronicles of Narnia are my favorite series, and no matter how many times I've read them they still speak to me. I love the allegory and find that they increase my faith in a new way each time. The second is DEREK JACOBI! How many times is it possible to listen to a Shakespearean actor read your FAVORITE novel? Can he please read more?

What about Derek Jacobi’s performance did you like?

I taught English IV for years, and have nearly all of Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet memorized from teaching it to so many students over the years. So listening to King Caudius' voice read The Voyage of the Dawntreader was really special.

"Masterful narration of a beloved classic"

Derek Jacobi is one of the greatest actors of our time. His narration of this classic tale is absolutely brilliant. He brings this beautiful story to life like no other could.

    "Favorite Narnia book"

This was my favorite book out of all 7. I liked the shorter stories that went along with each adventure. I also liked how Eustace changes as the book goes on. The imagery Lewis creates is amazing, espcially toward the end.

    "A classic well-done."

Voyage of the Dawn Treader picks up presumably not long after thhe four Pevensies returned from Narnia at the end of Prince Caspian. While Peter goes to study with the famous Professor Kirk and Susan visits America with their parents, Edmund and Lucy are enduring an unpleasant stay with their disagreeable cousin Eustace Scrubb. Things get complicated whent he three children are suddenly sucked into a painting of a ship sailing one of the seven seas. They find themselves aboard the Dawn Treader, King Caspian's personal ship. Caspian reveals that he is on a quest to find sevenn Narnian lords banished during the reign of his tyranical uncle Miraz and return them to Narnia. While Edmund and Lucy are overjoyed to be back in Narnia, the pampered Eustace wants nothing more than to go back home. Will the crew of the Dawn Treader be able to complete their quest? And will Eustace drive them all crazy?
This was an excellent production. Derek Jacobi does a good job of bringing the various characters to life. About my only complaint? is his portrayal of Reepicheep, but since he's a talking mouse... Needless to say I couldn't put this one down.

    "Marvelous collection!"

While Dawn Treader is a single, self-contained novel in the Narnian series, it seems like a collection of wonderful stories in itself. The "voyage" takes the characters all over, into and through many different countries: various and distinct.

I also commend the reader, Derek Jacobi, on an excellent performance. Thank you for capturing the spirit of the world and writing of Lewis.

I recommend this book to all readers of Lewis's fiction and nonfiction.

    "Love it!"

I loved this book just like the rest! I have read and seen all the movies and this is one of my favorites! There was nothing I disliked about the book and recommend this to all who love adventures and medieval books! There is also plenty of magic (good magic) and not very much fighting, if I could rate higher then five stars I would rate in the millions!

    "Favorite Classic"
    Any additional comments?

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was a favorite that I shared with my own children years ago. On a recent road trip, my husband and I revisited this third book in the Chronicles of Narnia series as an audiobook. It definitely did not disappoint. We were both drawn into Narnia and the adventures of Edmond, Lucy and their cousin, Eustace. It made a long trip go very quickly. I highly recommend the entire Chronicles of Narnia series in any form.
