Hannay—His 5 Adventures

By John Buchan

Narrated by Graham Scott

The listener can now enjoy all five adventures of Buchan's indefatigable hero Richard Hannay in one bundle.

First, in The Thirty-Nine Steps, Hannay struggles to thwart an assassination plot designed to hasten war between Britain and Germany. Later he is plucked from the trenches first, in Greenmantle, to frustrate a plot to ferment an uprising in the Islamic world; and then, in Mr. Standfast, to undertake a vital secret mission against a German spy ring operating among pacifist elements in England. After the war, his adventures continue in The Three Hostages when he reluctantly agrees to help recover the kidnapped children of three prominent men; and then in The Island of Sheep, when an old oath to protect the son of a friend from his days in Africa draws him into new danger.

There is No Bond Without Buchan’s Hannay

This is a wonderful collection to which I’ve had the pleasure of listening multiple times through. Please look up the BBC Special on John Buchan - he was as interesting as the honorable Arbuthlot

Riveting Adventure

Bearing in mind the culture of the time and it's embedded racism, classism and colonialism, the author has given us 5 roaring good stories which have influenced adventure stories from then on. The 39 Steps is said to be the very first spy thriller. The narrator Graham Scott masterfully replicates dialects from Gaelic to the southeastern United States so accurately that in some places I couldn't understand it! His rendition of Peter Pienaar from South Africa was my absolute favorite. These stories are also available on Kindle, and although not whispersync enabled, help with understanding the English language as it was spoken and written more than a hundred years ago. This collection is the best bang for your buck!

Enriching and Addictive!

Spending 50+ hours listening to the adventures of Richard Hannay was simply not enough! The characters are well developed. The style of writing allows the reader the window to see not only what the character is doing, but his thought processes as well. Time listening to this book was time very well spent!

Values of a bygone era

Thoroughly enjoyed these five adventures but most especially enjoyed the virtues that informed them. How wonderful to hear words like honor and courage and duty that men and women believed in and held true to. Highly recommend these to the world weary.
