Well done rendition of this classic!

Just as so many do, I love this story. I've seen so many adaptations of it, but never actually read the book. So when I found this unabridged audio, I had to hear it.

I am playing Bob Crachit locally this season for the 3rd year in a row. Having now heard the whole tale completely (with all the scenes and details which never make it to the films), in Dickens' wonderful prose, I understand him even better than before. I'm sure it will inform my performance.

This is very well done and I highly recommend it.

Excellent reading of this wonderful classic!

Reader did a very good job voicing this classic! This was enjoyable to listen to with voices of the characters and such without being over the top. I highly recommend.

Rather disappointing

There are numerous errors in the narration. Words are used that sound like the correct word but have a different meaning from the original. There are also numerous mispronunciations throughout the reading.

Awesome Book!

I loved reading this book (just finished reading stave 2) but the combo of Christmas and the phantoms is epic!

Poor narration spoilt the story for me.

The narrator in many instances did not stick to the text. I often asked myself whether the narration was incorrect or was the text of poor quality. In some instances the narration did not make sense.

there are much better narrators for this wonderful

it's sad to say that an American voice is not what is wanted here. there are lots of mispronounciations and a lack of character voices that can be distinguished.

Try Patrick Stewart. his scrooge on video is one of the very best, and I have watched them all, all the way down to Mr. Magoo. Jim Dale does a good story too, but if you are a Harry Potter fan you will equate the voices with HP characters. Mad eye Moody and Scrooge have the same voice... :]

Skip this version and go for another. Even Jonathan Winters abridged audio rendering is worth more than this.

ps if you are looking for other Christmas stories, listen to Derek Jacobi as Father Christmas in JRR Tolkien 's Letters from Father Christmas. It's so touching.

Excellent!

Is there a better book? I don’t know. It’s hard to beat A CHRISTMAS CAROL, the quintessential book on how to be a good human and how it’s never too late in this life to turn over a new leaf and improve yourself! Love love love this story! Especially right before Christmas. Highly recommend it to people of all ages! And 5 stars!

excellent narration

I couldn't have hoped for more. I purchased this to listen to in the car with older children during Christmas travels. Truly an excellent performance, pleasing to the ear and full of appropriate inflection and characterizations.

Classic Book Deserves Better Narration.

Many small words throughout were added or omitted, which is a small annoyance, but many words throughout were mispronounced. My 7th-grader was assigned to read this, which we did while we listened to the audiobook. Each time, I had to stop the narration and discuss the correct pronunciation to my daughter.

One example: "...and had lighted a great fire in a brazier", the word 'brazier' is pronounced as 'brassiere', (/brəˈzir/), instead of the correct /ˈbrāZHər/. This actually made us giggle, but was a distraction, as we had to stop and compose ourselves.

Another example: "Some people laughed to see the alteration in him", instead used the word "altercation", which again~ we had to stop and discuss.

Careful editing would have corrected these errors, and many others like it throughout the book. It's a shame, because Derek Miller has a very clear, pleasant voice, good pacing, and his character voices are solid. Without correct pronunciations, however, I will avoid his narration in the future.

Enjoyed it....But

This is a classic book and I enjoyed, but it was read with a slight American accent. Didn't quite fit old Victorian London.

Excellent narration

Loved it. About the third time I have listened to it, and it keeps getting better.
