The story that brings the Ranger's Apprentice arc full-circle!

Will Treaty has come a long way from the small boy with dreams of knighthood. Life had other plans for him, and as an apprentice Ranger under Halt, he grew into a legend - the finest Ranger the kingdom has ever known. Yet Will is facing a tragic battle that has left him grim and alone. To add to his problems, the time has come to take on an apprentice of his own, and it's the last person he ever would have expected. Fighting his personal demons, Will has to win the trust and respect of his difficult new companion - a task that at times seems almost impossible.

wish this wasn't the end

I've grown close to these characters and this book was bitter sweet as I knew it was the end. throughout the series I kept dreaming of living in their world. being a ranger like Will and Halt and living a life like theirs. so I'll say this in closing if they do make the movie series it has a lot to live up to.

Best one yet

I have been a fan of the Rangers Apprentice books for a long time, and I love this RA book. The story is compelling, and even with a mostly-new cast of characters, it captures my attention easily. This is easily my favorite in the series

Saying goodbye to old friends

John Flanagan had originally picked Lost Stories to tell the end of Will Treaty's tale. It did that, but we fans almost felt cheated as it was a collection of short stories. This book, set about 20 years after the events of the last full length story brings things to an end. It gives us the opportunity to meet a new generation. He has tied down most of our original adventurers in ways that prevent continuations of the old stories, but this story offers a lot of the same excitement we saw in earlier books with Will in a slightly different role. I don't give up all hope of seeing another Will Treaty book, as Flanagan has released books that take place between already published books before.

The story is a compelling one. It dealt with darker plots than we had seen since Icebound Land, but managed to keep things lighter than that story. Introducing a new generation was Flannagn's way to say, "I'm done with this series, but I'm leaving my options open for more stories in this realm." There were several sub-plots to keep the story moving and offer character development. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed any of the books in this series. I wouldn't recommend it as a first book to read as it would provide spoilers for just about every book in the series.

I love this series!

I'm sure my co-workers think I'm nuts but there were times this book had me holding back tears. That being said, I loved the book and enjoyed living in Will Treaty's world again.

I was excited to see how all of the characters grew up and learn how to deal with new problems.

If you haven't already, start reading this series and the other series art in this world. You will not regret it!

Rangers Apprentice series

WOW! This is an amazingly captivating book series! Loved every minute! John Flanagan writes in such a way that gives you full visual of all that is happening! John Keating does a WONDERFUL job of keeping the reader engaged with his reading of this series! I'm terrible sad that it is over! Thinking I'll have to read/listen again! 😊

Amazing!

I've listened to this entire series and I've loved every minute of it. The combination of John Flanagans writing and John Keating's narration have been flawless. This final entry in the series is no exception. I wasn't expecting such a huge jump in the timeline and worried about the introduction of Maddie since I thought she'd overshadow Will's role in the story. Thankfully that wasn't the case and I actually enjoyed the interplay between both characters. Although I did lament the diminished presence of Halt in the book. Despite that Flanagan still spins a worthy yarn and this is fitting end to the series. Highly recommended listening for all Rangers Apprentice fans!
