Publisher's summary

Bring history back to life through Jim Hodges' historically accurate, exciting, and edifying audio recordings.

Beginning with Queen Anne's visit to Scrooby Inn, Stories of the Pilgrims tells of the everyday life of the Pilgrims in England and Holland, of their voyage on the Mayflower, and their adventures in the New World. The Brewster children and other Pilgrim boys and girls are the center of interest. This is a wonderful recording for a family to listen to together in the weeks before Thanksgiving.

Written in the 1800s, the Young Listeners Collection features children's stories from yesterday's classics. Learn from our nation's founders whose Christian faith was lived out in the lives of the characters in these stories.

Easy for the kids to understand

Occasionally, my kids have trouble understanding narrators, but Jim Hodges was easy to understand. He spoke clearly, not too fast, and was pleasant to listen to. Our whole family enjoyed the story.

Good stories for learning about the pilgrims

I really enjoyed this book for a few reasons. First, it was a fairly complete children’s story of the pilgrims and how they actually got to America. Secondly, after learning that I am related to the Brewster family, this story became a family story for me, which made it that more interesting. It looks s not as entertaining as 39 clues, but still a good book worth your time reading/ listening to.

Well-meant but offensive Indian descriptions

I would not share this with my 7 year old: Indians are not caveman! Offensive use of "grunts" and "savages" and "drunk Indian is worst indian" in a narration meant for children. More care could have been put tell the pilgrim-indian relationship without constantly praising the prior and dehumanizing the latter. My young niece is part-indian and I don't want her exposed to this book. She can learn this history in a more humanizing way.
