Editorial reviews

What more idyllic setting could there be for the new home of L.M. Montgomery's famed Anne and her groom, Gilbert Blythe, than a white cottage nestled into the ocean shore and surrounded by gardens and new friends? After a Green Gables wedding, Anne and Gilbert settle in Four Winds Harbour as Gilbert starts his medical practice. Great happiness, as well as sorrow, greets the newlyweds as their early years together unfold. Narrating the work of a consummate storyteller is a tall order, and Barbara Caruso rises to the occasion. She is an unobtrusive narrator, letting the power of each episode take center stage. All the while, she adds her mark to each personality - the spunk and glow of Anne, the eccentricity of Miss Cornelia, the heartache of Leslie - and brings merit to the recording.

Don't be put off by the sample's audio quality.

I listened to the samples of all the different recordings of his book, and I liked this narrator best, but I almost didn't get it because the audio wasn't great. When I got it, however, the audio quality was great. Barbara Caruso does a great job.

A dreamy home for Anne

This was a delight -- the only drawback seemed to be the mispronunciation of several words; of particular annoyance was any reference to Gog & Magog, as the narrator kept pronouncing Magog as "Mā-gog" rather than "Mah-gog"... other than that distraction, was extremely pleased.

Good story, well narrated

Any additional comments?

The narrator does a really good job on all of the characters.
The story was better than "Anne of Windy Poplars" and as good as the more widely known first three books in the series.

Great narrator, but rough cutoff points

The narrator read the voices well and I have always enjoyed Barbara Caruso, but instead of allowing listeners to follow the real chapters, the book was divided into 45 minute sections. Since I started and stopped quite often, it was never easy to find my place. What made it more difficult was how the voice was chopped off before properly finishing the sentence, which made it even more confusing, especially if I was distracted or fell asleep. For the price, that was disappointing.

Absolutely delightful!

I was not sure if I would enjoy this story, but I absolutely fell in love with it and the new characters we were introduced to. I find it inspiring how Anne always brings life and light to the lives of the people around her, simply by being herself. I also very much enjoyed the narrator. She does a great job.

I loved the narrator of this book

I was very impressed with the narration of this book. I laughed, I cried and I had a hard time putting it away. I was captivated by this story and the narrators voice and the way she put herself into the story was just excellent!! I wish all the people narrating a book did so well! Thank you thank you!

Not the Best Anne Book

Content warnings: suicide and infant loss. The color in Anne's personality fades progressively as Montgomery gets deeper into the book series. Anne becomes a flat, bland character around whom circle the more vivid characters, in this case Miss Cornelia, Captain Jim, and Leslie Moore. Anne's only real arc in this book is one of grief addressed briefly and obliquely. Marilla and Green Gables disappear almost entirely. This is not my favorite book of the series.

Sweet story

This is a sweet continuation of previous Anne stories. Very enjoyable with a lovely narrator.
