Publisher's summary

Universal power is gone ...

Centuries ago, a clean, endless power source was discovered coursing through space. We found a way to harness it and life became easy - no more struggling. Without warning, a technologically advanced alien race came along and just took it away.

We took electricity for granted. Just another bill, sitting on the counter waiting to be paid.

Until it's gone.

Billions perished. Frozen to death in their homes. Starved when manufacturers and farmers couldn't produce enough food.

We'd built a helpless civilization dependent on universal power. The old, simple way of hard work and toiling the land was forgotten.

The aliens just left.

We struggled to survive. We learned, again. Tapped into the Earth, and found resources. Powered our homes and machines.

Then the aliens returned and started imprisoning us. Forced us to mine gold without explanation.

Now, only one woman stands between the aliens and our freedom: Commander Saren Thorn.

Way over the top Star Trek

All the standard characters are there, but they are like none you have met before. An added treat is a good guy that's the spitting image of the big White Abominable Snowman from the old Stop Action Christmas TV shows.

It is impossible to evaluate the story line in any normal sense. It is ridiculous, absurd and simply great fun for the listener. Can't imagine what the next in the series will be like, but I will buy it as soon as I can.

Exciting and Action-Packed!

If you enjoy sci-fi as much as I do, this book will give you what you want. The action is fun, the characters are interesting and well drawn and this book fits so nicely into the series. Still, you don't have to listen to any of the other books to have great time with this one. The book draws a fantastic new universe with interesting creatures and people - AND conflicts.

Tom Lennon gives an excellent performance. His voice is steady and easy to listen to. He hits the right notes at the right times; get the laughs when he should and builds the tension when he should. Great work, Mr. Lennon!

A wonderful listen and I highly recommend this audiobook!

Great Sci/Fi Adventure!

Well written and well thought out. Can easily support a sequel.
Narrator has good annunciation, but I recommend a software assistance of vocal pressure.
I recommend this audiobook for ages 16 and older due to violence, and some language.
I was given this audiobook for free and I freely give my rating and opinion.

I loved this book.

This story has it all: Si-Fi, Adventure, Thriller, Twists-Turns, Dragons, Magic and more. Dean Kutzler occasionally comes in out of the rain to "be more conventional". That just sets up what is coming next. I highly recommend this book to all. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audio-book at my request and have voluntarily left this review." "I was voluntarily provided this review copy audio-book at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.”

Not bad, not my favorite

This one didn't hit my favorites list. I started the book looking for more of the "military sci-fi" but it lands a bit more in the "mythical in space" land. I also prefer my universe creation to be a subtle journey throughout the book, rather than a data-dump at the outset of the book. Finally, the writing skewed jouvenel. Some of the phraseology and word choice was jarring, taking me out of the book. In all, I had my gripes, but I listened through and the story as a whole was alright.

Now, the obligatory, "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Well executed sci-fi/fantasy

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a great listen. I am in no way a genre purist. In fact, I love when a talented author blends genres in a unique way. Yes, the sci-fi/fantasy blend has been done before, but I thought this one was one of the better ones. The way each element is woven into the story didn't feel forced to me. I liked, and rooted for, the main characters. The narration is done very well. All in all, this was really fun to listen to. I would DEFINITELY be open to more from this author/narrator duo.

strugglee with the actors performance

Was difficult to listen to because of the actor doing the voices. Felt very forced most of the audio book.

No offense to the narrator, but MY GOD, could you possibly of chosen a more boring person!!!

I’m honestly not sure how I felt about this book. It was absolutely the worst narration I’ve ever listens through, and I’m about a 130 audio books deep. I was only able to hang on and get threw it by imagining how a different farragoes would of responded Dee more appropriately to almost every situation and dialogue. The book has plenty of problems it’s self, but it would of gotten a much better rating with a different narrator. If not my first, then this is my second review one over one hundred audible titles…. Good luck. It it’s the same narrator, I probably won’t try book two. Even though it left on a hell of a hanger.

2.5 Stars

I liked Dean's Jack Elliot series, but couldn't really enjoy this one. I almost quit at one point. The story starts of interesting with humans in the future using an unlimited source of energy, but having an alien race come and take it away from them. They also have to relearn about fossil fuels and the long lasting effects of its use. The story starts off slow and takes a weird turn when the main character lands on an unknown planet. This is where I think too much is thrown into this sci-fi book. We have space, aliens, cyborgs, Gods, Mythical creatures, Magic, etc. There is too much weird tangents going on trying to explain everything. The characters talk like they're juveniles, but this clearly isn't a YA novel. The narration was slow, and didn't really fit for a Sci-fi novel. The uniqueness in the character voices wasn't there and neither was the enthusiasm. Tough listen. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Narration lacks enthusiasm

I am sorry that I could not finish the storyline because of the problems with the narrator.
