Story
Revolutionary singer, songwriter, producer, bandleader, and funk icon George Clinton travels the rich cosmos of his musical history. As the second most sampled artist in the world (right behind James Brown), Clinton examines his incongruous path from delivering milk to Sarah Vaughan on Avon Avenue in Newark, New Jersey, to embodying funk as we know it—from Motown to the Mothership. Clinton’s experiences as the mastermind behind his bands Parliament and Funkadelic and as the foremost authority on all things funk make for a distinctive, humorous, and thoughtful journey through modern music.

It's the riveting account of a blue collar, high-school dropout emerging from Seattle, Washington, to become one of the greatest singer-songwriters and voices of his generation. With input from people who knew and worked with him - together with Cornell's own words - the book recounts in great detail the rise of his immortal band Soundgarden as they emerged from the 1980s post-punk underground to dominate popular culture in the '90s alongside other Seattle bands like Pearl Jam.

Just as Nicks (and Lindsay Buckingham) gave Fleetwood Mac the "shot of adrenaline" they needed to become real rock stars - according to Christine McVie - Gold Dust Woman is vibrant with stories and with a life lived large and hard.

Behind the curtain of her happy on-screen persona, Valerie Bertinelli’s life has been no easy ride, especially when it comes to her own self-image and self-worth. She waged a war against herself for years, learning to equate her value to her appearance as a child star on One Day at a Time and punishing herself in order to fit into the unachievable Hollywood mold. She struggled to make her marriage to Eddie Van Halen—the true love of her life—work, despite all the rifts the rock-star lifestyle created between them.

Comedian Tom Segura is incapable of doing an Asian accent. He can't dazzle you with puppets or an acoustic guitar. What Tom Segura can do is tell jokes. Jokes about black people, Mexican people, homeless people, little people, and, yes, his balls. But he’s light enough, endearing enough and downright wacky enough to tackle these topics without sounding like a fulminating Tea Party candidate or a Ragin' Palin apostle on his delightfully deranged and dippy debut album.

In LA only a few weeks and still living in his car, he answered a want ad for a bass player placed by someone who identified himself only as "Slash." Soon after, the most dangerous band in the world was born. Guns N' Roses went on to sell more than 100 million albums worldwide.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

In this Audible Exclusive performance by Matt Lucas of Great Expectations, Charles Dickens demonstrates that conscience, loyalty and empathy are virtues far more valuable than intellect, wealth and social standing. First published in Dickens’ own periodical, All the Year Round, the novel was divided into nine monthly instalments, from December 1860 to August 1861. Unsurprisingly, it was an instant success and managed to sell over 100,000 copies per week. Though written at a challenging time in Dickens’ life, when the impending breakdown of his marriage loomed over him, Great Expectations proves to be one of his most optimistic, comical and romantic novels.

Thanks to Eddie Vetter for sharing
It felt good to hear, in Eddie's own words and voice a few glimpses into his life. Though there was understandably not a lot of intimate personal sharing (the world eats enough of the famous), I thought it brave that he spoke of the Roskilde concert, and the Ticketmaster- power- monger s---ts, and sent him another thousand blessings for taking on such a noble cause, even when the outcome was so disappointing. Did everyone thank them for that? I hope so.

Great Pearl Jam Words+Music
This is a great addition to the Audible Originals + Music collection. Eddie Vedder, popular for his work as an artist in Pearl Jam, talks about his early days in the band, struggles with work + life balance, and how he tries to continue being authentic even after he's risen to such fame. Vedder intersperses stories and reflections on his life with performances of songs he's written. At just over 1 hr 20 min, this is a pleasant listen, not the least of which because Vedder has such a nice voice to listen to <3
You do not need to be a die hard Pearl Jam fan to enjoy this; I had heard of Pearl Jam before but I don't own their albums, so I listened to some YouTube albums of theirs to re-familiarize myself with their work prior to starting this, and that really added to my appreciation of Vedder's career.

Who knew...
...that Eddie Vedder was so shy? Expect stream of consciousness with the briefest of glimpses into his personal history and creative process. Don't blink or you'll miss it. Also, beautiful compositions, a lot of heart, and the gratifying knowledge that he didn't have to go all "mad scientist" to be creative-while-parent.

Long time fan
I have long been a fan of Mr. Vedder. He is humble and thoughtful in his choice of words. I think surfing one tests themself against forces greater than oneself each day- I can hear the mindfulness in his words and his creations. He is very inspiring and thought provoking- not only about his work but the work of others. I really relate to locking myself away- and having to manage the forces of creativity with a very practical real world. I saw an interview with him and Sean Penn about Into The Wild, and the idea of translating in an almost shamanic experience appeals to me. I think he is a shaman…
