Teaches how to make money.

I have read many other books of this sort, The Purpose is Profit is unique because it is more than the usually "how-to" instruction manuals. Instead of strictly stating lessons, the authors do a wonderful job of framing all lessons in the context of personal stories. This is extremely beneficial as it allows the reader to relate their own circumstances to the stories and learn in a way that is geared towards their specific situation.

Must know when and how to start new business.

The lessons start with the title itself, How to Start a Business, like myself, begin entrepreneurial ventures with grand ideas of saving the world and making money while doing. The authors make it clear that this mind set is essential for entrepreneurs, but the first lesson any entrepreneur must learn is that in order to have the impact they wish, they must

This is a how to of practical, immediately usable knowledge from someone who's gotten it done. Intertwined with entertaining personal stories that are bound to amuse and add insight. Not one to sugarcoat, Shields shares the ups and downs, the professional challenges, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat! The book is Coupled With Advices.

For me, this is the most accessible business book imaginable. It is clearly organized so that I could skip to the parts that spoke to me. It is written without business slang or condescension. It has a story-line, unlike the ordinary textbook. It reiterates its lessons as chapter summaries and as a to-do list for the budding entrepreneur.

It is a guide on starting your own company.

The book is somewhat of an entrepreneurial autobiography for the author himself, Mr. Greg Shields . Through his trial and tribulations he speaks from mostly personal experience when he purveys his ideas on the entrepreneurial journey. In this case, his journey and subjective experiences are immensely important. A prospective reader should note what kind of company he started and that advice coming from the purview of a B2C entrepreneur would likely be different in many aspects.

Essential Reference for Start a Business.

Quality and thoughtfulness reeks from the cover, to the index and through the appendix. Wish I had this when I was starting and running past businesses. The index, road map and concisely written content earn The Purpose of Profit a permanent place on my bookshelf. I plan to order more copies to "loan" to entrepreneurial friends seeking a concise reference for building a sustainable business.

The author covers everything.

Targeted action steps...must do lists...must not do lists....do as I did, not as someone says, practical ideas gained from serious, front line experience in the trenches. Got your own copy, listen to it, and if you do take the entrepreneurial leap, keep it close by- with a hi-liter in hand.

Keep it close by- with a hi-liter in hand.

What makes this such a fun read is how author draws the reader into his story in the casual, almost informal and engaging writing style of a John Grisham best-selling novel. But after that part of the story is laid out, it's all business.

One of the best I've read in some time.

One of the best I've read in some time. Extraordinarily well written ... not just in terms of language but in concept. To me, logical flow and depth of insight are key. This book delivers on both levels. A cornerstone of his work is the distinctive competence concept. I think it's brilliant. He could do a follow up work on that alone.
