Publisher's Summary

Do you dream of starting your own business but don’t have any money? What if you could set up a venture with nothing but a good business idea and the determination to make it work?

It’s an appealing idea, particularly in the current economic climate where no one has cash to spare and austerity rules the day. In fact, studies show that more people start businesses during recessions than at any other time. The good news is that it can be done, provided you follow a few golden rules.

Based on Rachel Bridge's popular workshops, this book will help set you on the way to success.

As the former Enterprise Editor for the Sunday Times, Rachel has interviewed hundreds of successful entrepreneurs. Join her on her journey as she starts up her very own enterprise, entrepreneurthings.com, and covers all the ups and downs she encounters, while giving examples along the way of how real-life entrepreneurs have coped with the same problems that beset everyone in business at some point.

Practical, interesting, inspiring!

What did you love best about How To Start A Business Without Any Money?

This book provides some great real tips for starting a business on the cheap. Even if the suggested tips and resources don't meet your needs, the book helps create a mindset of making things work. Entrepreneurs cannot take no for an answer, and this is a great mindset to adopt early and well. The author also does what many entrepreneur authors have not done, which is start and describe a business as they write - applying the things they teach. I loved hearing about her business and seeing the ways she applied her concepts to her idea. It kept them relatable and realistic.

Often entrepreneur books will focus largely on the why, they leave me feeling amped with motivation and inspiration to tackle the world but I haven't the clue where to start. This book left me inspired as well but it did so by showing me that I truly don't have to risk my entire life by trying entrepreneurship and that I can attempt my ideas with creative low cost solutions.

I also loved the point the author makes that if you fail, you will be alright. It helped me realize that even the logically I am not risking much I need to attack my personal fear of failure and learn to embrace it. She also highlights that even if you find starting and running a business is not for you, the experience leaves you better armed to be a unique and valuable instrument to an existing business. This is one example of how the author inspires in a very practical way.

Do yourself a favor, and pickup this title. It is time and money well spent!

Missed Calling

This author should have done a better job naming the book. Something to the effect of, “How to Start a Dot Com Business with Your Bubble Gum Money”. Here I’m thinking they’re going to get creative on how to finance a new business... not how to start a business by buying a cheap url and figuring out how to sell stuff you can make or procure for cheap. I’m so disappointed that this is the book I used my monthly audible credit on.

Amazing anecdotes!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I found it educational and entertaining, and the anecdotes provided throughout the chapters were wonderful. I did find it to be positive yet cautious. It would have been nice to hear some failure stories, but the lessons were well learned.

Clear, concise, and full of real world examples

Really enjoyed this book practical, inspiring book. I've been thinking of starting my own business for decades and this might actually spur me on to do something about it! Rachel Bridge offers a strong combination of experienced writer and 'doer' in the Entrepreneur world. She brings all the knowledge and examples from her Times column and combines this with her own experiences of setting up her own business.

I have also bought the Kindle book as there are loads of internet links in the book which you can just click on rather than playing back from the audiobook.

Anything missing from the book? Well, I'd really loved to have had chapters on 'legal' stuff and 'employing people'. These are things which put a lot of people off starting up small businesses. Things like, 'Terms of Website use', 'contacts with buyers', 'agreements with suppliers', 'Public Liability insurance', 'employment law'. I know these are huge subjects but some useful starter info/links would be gold dust to me.

Anyway, I'm off to download her 'How to make a Million...' book now.

when you need an idea

it's ok for when you need a few ideas to generate your business, without it costing you a fortune. There is still costs associated with starting a business.

motivational, inspiring and sort of survival guide

starting a business is something many dream of doing, but many questions and lack of experience stops them from trying unless they have a friend whom they can take guidance from. this is your one stop shop

Bit of a coffee table read

I was looking for a educational book to help me grow my business. I found this more of a coffee table read. Very little science and too much personal opinion. Not that I doubt the authors credibility, rather I don’t think I am it’s intended audience. I found the reader difficult to listen too. In all, not for me.
