Publisher's summary

The house party at Chateau Blissac, Brittany, features a rather odd array of guests this year.

Mr. J. Wellington Gedge is hoping for some peace and quiet while his wife takes herself off for a while. She, however, has invited numerous visitors to the chateau, to whom he will have to play reluctant host. Senator Opal and his daughter are expected, and so is the chateau's handsome owner, Vicomte de Blissac.

When a certain letter goes missing, landing the senator in the proverbial hot water, it's up to Packy Franklyn, a great pal of the vicomte's, to sort out the mess. Unfortunately this involves a little light safecracking.

My favorite Wodehouse!

This is the penultimate Wodehouse with wacky characters, an involved storyline of mistaken identities, and tied together by brilliant writing and laugh-at-loud phrases. The narrator is excellent. What a pleasure!!

Oops

It’s a typical Wodehouse, need one say more.
I do need to comment on the description of one character chloroforming a sleeping woman, though. More than non-PC. I don’t want to advocate censorship but if that sentence were accidentally deleted no one would probably mind, not even Plum.

Hilarious

Such a fun bit of mid 20th century delights. Appreciate P G Wodehouse sense of the ridiculous and ability to surprise at every turn.

Classic Wodehouse!

Jonathan Cecil was something special.
I hope the rest of the Wodehouse works get a narrator on those impressive lines.
Some of the best characters Wodehouse created are in this story.

Great Stuff!

An absolute delight. Fantastic reader, hilarious, convoluted story. P.G. Wodehouse at his best. I recommend it highly.

broader more slapstick than Jeeves and Bertie

Perhaps I have been spoiled. I reread all of those classics more than once. I doubt that I shall reread this one again but I enjoyed it enough to not return it: I guess a less than prime PG woodhouse is better than most other things around. I would be happy for any recommendation from a jeeves and bertie loyalist!

My Favorite Wodehouse So Far

This is the most humorous Wodehouse to me. I enjoyed the perfect balance of characters and the location. It was a very active crowd. Fun!
