Publisher's Summary

In this courageous, leading-edge book, Jeff Brown takes us on the spiritual ride of a lifetime. In Part One, we join him on an engaging, often hilarious, and compelling personal journey through decades of tasting from a banquet of spiritual approaches. Through his direct experience, fierce exploration, and scintillating discernment, Brown exposes the fragmented, ungrounded, and dissociative notions of spirituality that have imprisoned our consciousness and obstructed our awakening since time immemorial. In his cuttingly straight style, he reveals that much of what we have been calling "spirituality" is actually a patriarchal, emotionally bereft construct that perpetuates our self-avoidance. He then proves to us - point by brilliant point - that true spirituality is a whole-being awakening that wonderfully embraces our entire human experience.

In Part Two of Grounded Spirituality, Brown engages in a riveting dialogue with an ungrounded seeker named "Michael." Their dialogues unfurl in warmth, humor, playfulness, and personal story, threaded with challenging confrontation and cutting truth. Hands-on exercises are dispersed throughout, providing listeners with a direct experience of a new, inclusive model. Here the author lays down the tracks for a more balanced, heartfelt, and relational spirituality - one that leaves us "enrealed", integrated, and purposeful.

Great book

Only complaint is the author is reading both sides of a conversation and at times it’s hard to keep track of which character is speaking

Life changing stuff

Extremely well written and engaging, and so on point. I found this so validating as to why I've walked away from my intense journey into nondualism and toward earth spirituality and personal healing and empowerment. It also opened up deep seated feelings about my past with nondualism that needed to be brought up to feel and heal. I highly recommend this for everyone, but especially those like me who have fallen off the nondualism wagon because they just can't keep abandoning themselves any longer and are ready to finally LIVE. I'm very grateful to have read this. It was an important part of my own journey.

too wordy too long good point in there too late

Comments were by my friend K A who read book first and so i didn’t bother to read it because of comments. I got cliff notes version of it and i owe them dinner for saving my valuable time.

Where do I begin?
First of all, the audio book could have gotten the message (if you can figure out what the message is) across in six-eight hours versus the sixteen plus hours that you had to endure. I placed it on 1.25X speed so I wouldn’t be tempted to cut my ears off. It was bad enough that I experienced a severe migraine after the first chapter. The first half is too wordy, I have a bachelors degree and I was wishing I had dictionary at times. The author is extremely angry, you can tell he still has old baggage that he needs to throw off the train. I have done personal research with drugs and I can tell you this guy is either on some or needs a prescription. He also contradicts himself; does a lot of male blaming; has issue with the patriarchy of spirituality. About half way through the book it’s as though another person has appeared (not talking about the other character). The author seems to have calmed down and is not as wordy. There is too much vulgar language even for me. When the author brings the “Michael” character in play, he, the author is doing that character as well with his voice. Not good. The conversations between them (author/Michael) are overly dramatic and stiff. Then he tries to throw in humor. Geez, we don’t need any more unemployed comedians. The author plugs his wife’s books numerous times throughout the reading. The worst were the practical exercises, OMG, every experience by “Michael” was too over the top.
I was beginning to think I got “punked” with this book. The author’s comments about mental illness shows he has no clue. The author does make some good points, but they are overshadowed or buried by all the other crap. You don’t understand what his message is until the very end...He has an agenda-the author is a Spiritual Activist and a political activist. He even wastes your time telling you all the difficulties he endured trying to complete the book. Winey, winey! I’m glad I have my poo poo somewhat together, because if I was using this as a guide, I’d end up in the madhouse or end up closer to the edge. Buyers/Readers beware! FYI- the author self published because he got turned away-
Reason- TOO WORDY!!

A message that everyone needs to hear

I first came in contact with Jeff's material through his quotes that he shares on Instagram and wanted to check out one of his books. Grounded Spirituality was the first one I have ever read/listened to.

Much like the quotes he shares on social medial, the book follows true to form. What I love about Jeff and this book is that it doesn't offer a quick fix to transforming yourself and instead offers a method grounded in your body and bodily emotions.

About 5 years ago, without really even knowing what somatic therapy was, I started therapy with a therapist that did brain spotting. I have been going about every 2 weeks since then and it has changed my life. Jeff's process reaffirms mine - getting into my body saved my life, my marriage, and made me a better father.

While I found he and Michael's conversation a bit corny at times (I was never a meditator), Jeff's message is truly a humanistic approach. As a man, father, war vet, and husband, I recommend this book whole heartedly.

good information, bad presentation.

most of the book is actually a fictional series of sessions between jeff and an imaginary student. this is jeffs imaginational rant about groundedness. the irony is felt thruout the book. i like the philosophy, the method of delivery is disappointing.

Completely enlightening!

As a recovering denier of self and feelings individual as part of my spiritual teaching & practice....I am blown away by how this book speaks to me. I’m so grateful, it has shone some clarity on why this former guru teaching and my long term relationship did not resonate fully with me, why I was conflicted and unhappy and this book is very affirming. It also makes room for humanity and true living in this earth. Thanks - I feel like Im no longer bound by “shoulds” and am reminded to go within, if only words could express how this book has helped clarify things for me . So Grateful.

Spot On!!

Finally a reflection of the shared humanistic world and beauty and struggle of inner transformation - smack dab in the middle of human experience and human reality - where spirituality and love resides uniquely in us all. Beautifully crafted and narrated.

Resonance

Seeing myself as an ‘ease finder’ I’m intentionally choosing and embracing, tho often with agonizing and at times debilitating resistance within all my bodies, a path within I admit is most confronting to my core.. the growth I’m experiencing as my personal life design revealing is for me equally unavoidable. Listening to your recording of Grounded Spirituality is of course timely, no coincidence 😊, and received in gratefulness in my expanding awareness into my heart. It’s as if we’ve already met, blessings and thank you 🙏🏽💫

Boring!!!

This is a boring, boring self-display of the author’s autobiography as somehow an example to being grounded spiritually. Don’t waste your time or money.

Too much waffle

Jack Kornfield's After the Ecstasy the Laundry says it better. Unfortunately like me, this author has fallen into the intellectual ego trap. There's way too much waffle waffle waffle waffle waffle insight waffle waffle waffle waffle waffle waffle waffle waffle insight followed by more...yes you guessed it...waffle.

Much of the insights are expressed within the fictitious or contrived conversation between the author and someone he calls Michael. I say fictitious or contrived because there is no human on the planet who could possibly recall such a lengthy conversation in so much detail, unless it was recorded and there is no mention of it being so. Therefore there is no insignificant amount of poetic licence, embellishment and a whole ton of waffle.

So tired of spiritual authors getting lost in their own musings. Awakening(s), enlightenment (whether it exists or not), lets just call it a wider, deeper, integrated and elevated sense of awareness are by their very nature succinct and devoid of meanderings.

He's got a massive ego

Jeff's delivery is quite unlikeable as his ego makes too many appearances through his speech.

Review by Sofia Livingstone

So much gratitude for the depth of Jeff’s authenticity and radical truth telling that always catapults me to my deep sacred purpose. I know what it takes and I bow in honour at the courage and strength of what Jeff has had to navigate and excavate to create such beautiful and long lasting footprints for me and others to dare to tread. I feel indebted, open hearted and crying for the gifts I receive from Jeffs writing that pours balm on my soul and lights me to sacred action. Jeff and Andrew are my male heroes because they have come down to embrace deep humility and with their compassionate wisdom it melts so much blocked pain and allows me, us to come ‘home’ to myself, ourselves to a sacred heart co-creation thats messy as fuck but fully alive. Thank you to my brothers we do need you so much, bless you for your bullshit detecting so we can see the elephants and name them, this reality wake up call. Eternally grateful xx

Ok

I thought this audiobook was ok. it had some good tips on having a more embodied spirituality. I'm not certain if the author understood Satgurus.

Illumination.

As Jeff says, when the student is ready the student will come, I arrived at the most appropriate juncture in my life to listen to this book. He writes with heartfelt truth which I felt reflected my own journey so far. The reading is clear, lucid and convincing. He has led me from confusion about what next to a glimmer of the path I need to tread along my own purpose. Thank you Jeff Brown

Love love love the truth wisdom of this book

Words may fail to express the importance of this book for me... medicine for the soul in this world of egoic disillusionment. Practical , insightful & gifted with so many gems... it is truly a treasure chest of gifts to be found for the truth seeker... so much so I need a hard copy for ongoing reference. Heart smiles & deep soul bows of acknowledgement to the wonderful Jeff Brown 🙏💗
