From Dr. Nicole LePera, creator of ""the holistic psychologist""—the online phenomenon with more than two million Instagram followers—comes a revolutionary approach to healing that harnesses the power of the self to produce lasting change.

As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole LePera often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients—and for herself—she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual wellness that equips people with the interdisciplinary tools necessary to heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she’d learned with others—and soon “The Holistic Psychologist” was born.

Now, Dr. LePera is ready to share her much-requested protocol with the world. In How to Do the Work, she offers both a manifesto for SelfHealing as well as an essential guide to creating a more vibrant, authentic, and joyful life. Drawing on the latest research from a diversity of scientific fields and healing modalities, Dr. LePera helps us recognize how adverse experiences and trauma in childhood live with us, resulting in whole body dysfunction—activating harmful stress responses that keep us stuck engaging in patterns of codependency, emotional immaturity, and trauma bonds. Unless addressed, these self-sabotaging behaviors can quickly become cyclical, leaving people feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, and unwell.

In How to Do the Work, Dr. LePera offers readers the support and tools that will allow them to break free from destructive behaviors to reclaim and recreate their lives. Nothing short of a paradigm shift, this is a celebration of empowerment that will forever change the way we approach mental wellness and self-care.

This is a book I will definitely revisit. I was introduced to it through blinkist and decided I was intrigued enough to want to listen to the whole book.
I think a lot of people are struggling to find some direction and inner peace after the last couple of years and the content of this book will definitely get you thinking about where some changes may need to be made. There are some great nuggets of advice, but there are also some (at least for me) contradictions - or perhaps a better way of saying it is that some of the techniques and suggestions would be a personal contradiction for important beliefs I hold. I would definitely recommend this book - I think it has the potential to enlighten a lot of people who are open to it.

Strong start, lost me towards the end

Honestly, I hate to even say anything bad because everything about the book was perfection. The only thing I didn’t care about was her focus on racism. As a person of color, I don’t agree with her there. I refuse to identify as oppressed. Aside from that, it was honestly the best book I’ve ever read. I don’t really understand the bad reviews except assuming that people don’t want to do the work or they haven’t found the spirituality aspect of their life yet. Maybe it’s just the perfect time in my life, but I felt like I resonated with every chapter and she had a perfect way of organizing these thoughts and delivering them well. I really just can’t understand the bad reviews because I would honestly say this is the best book I’ve ever read in my life. I did the book on audio but I’m going to be purchasing it so that I can highlight certain areas. Plus, I also want to support the author for writing such an amazing book. I will be recommending it to all of my patients!

Other than reviews on racism, it’s the best book ever written!

Author refers to a person’s birth as trauma to child and mother. Absolutely ridiculous to try to convince ppl of that. Although painful it was NOT traumatic having children, it was an amazing not glamorous but cherished experience. This book try’s to convince ppl everything is negative in life and to pity yourself versus build confidence and practice not being offended.

Interesting

I thought this book did a great job of introducing me to the past traumas I had faced and what their likely impact on me as a child was. I always thought I’d escaped my childhood undamaged. But the older I get I see this was not the case at all. This boon pulled back the curtain on a lot of truths I was not really aware of or had started to guess at.

A great first step
