What does the Bible really say about the end times? There are so many Christians teaching outrageous speculation about end times Bible prophecy these days. It's enough to frustrate the serious Bible student. What if you found out most of it is simply mistaken? What if you found out that the ancient Jewish writers were using Old Testament imagery of the past, not a crystal ball gaze into our modern future?

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Story
Hitting a Straight Lick with a Crooked Stick is an outstanding collection of stories about love and migration, gender and class, racism and sexism that proudly reflect African-American folk culture. Brought together for the first time in one volume, they include eight of Hurston’s "lost" Harlem stories, which were found in forgotten periodicals and archives. These stories challenge conceptions of Hurston as an author of rural fiction and include gems that flash with her biting, satiric humor, as well as more serious tales.

Amazing narration, w/ a medley of biblical events + story telling
I love it. I loved how he wove everything together. It helps to make it identifiable, believable. I think that’s what our problem is nowadays, society cannot fathom the sheer greatness of God and the fishbowl of deception and lies we love in. So thanks, it helps paint a beautiful picture. You have a wonderful gift.

Let the truth be retold
Gilgamesh Immortal: Chronicles of the Nephilim (Volume 3) i’ve always found the story of the epic of Gilgamesh fascinating. But when I saw this novel I thought 0h no what’s up here, Gilgamesh and The Bible. The way Brian weaves the web of the chronicles it just works. The twist at the end of the novel is almost prophetic. The retelling of history as they want it.

Exciting and refreshing perspective
I loved the ideas expressed in this book about Gilgamesh meeting Noah and that he changes his name. Name changes help tie this story to biblical stories and helps engage my imagination.
I loved the adventure but could have done without the violent sexual acts described in detail.
I’d recommend this to adults wanting biblical based fiction adventures.

Well Crafted Overview of Mythic Culture in Bible..
Well crafted overview of mythic culture in Bible times!
Gilgamesh is a heartless tyrant of a King who has his perspective changed by a “Wildborn”; a Tarzan-like fellow (only with a Lot more hair!). The heroics are fast moving and relentless as they face impossible odds together and conquer incredible foes of Biblical and mythical proportion.
Why does the ancient writing “The Epic of Gilgamesh “ have so much in common with the early chapters of Genesis?
In an appendix Brian Godawa explains the sources and concepts behind his well crafted and well acted out tale.
The kindle version is better suited for young readers. The audio version has more sexual content.
After reading while listening to this exciting tale, I understand more about the Bible’s use of Rahab the sea monster, and Leviathan, and also about Ishtar and the “sons of god” who were assigned to rule over the various nations.
...a painless study in the mythology that was well known during Bible times!

A story that comes to life
I’ve always wanted to read the story of Gilgamesh but the thought of a heavy tome put me off. Not so with this audio by Brian Godawa. The narrative was so descriptive, and told at times with humour, that the story was enthralling. I am looking forward to listening to further audio books about the heroes of yore coming back to life.
