Publisher's summary

From Wall Street Journal and USA Today best-selling author Devney Perry comes a second-chance small-town romance.

Talia Eden loved Foster Madden for one year, two months, and eleven days. It was on day 438 that her love died. The day he chose to marry her best friend. The day she vowed never to think of Foster again.

Until years later, when he has the audacity to show up in her small hometown of Quincy, begging for her help.

The ink on his divorce papers is barely dry, yet he comes armed with apologies and promises. She knows it’s all a ploy. Foster is the king of games and secrets. But he’s got delusions the size of Montana if he thinks she’ll help him train for a world championship fight.

Except Talia has forgotten exactly what made Foster famous. The man has dedicated his life to victory. He’s steadfast. He’s determined. And he won’t stop fighting until he’s won her heart.

Second chance — MMA fighter with secrets!

5 ⭐️ 2.5 🌶️

📖 Talia Eden left Quincy for school as she pursued her career in medicine. She fell in love with a boy and had her heart badly broken when he abruptly left her to marry her best friend. She went home and never really told her family what happened, mending her broken heart alone, but never really moving on. Years later Foster shows up in Quincy to win back his girl!

Thoughts: As much as I loved Griffin and Knox, Foster is my fav of the men so far! I am partial to fighter romances, so that may be part of it, but I think it also has a lot to do with him being an underdog and having to fight for his girl all the way. He hurt Talia badly, but he had reasons for doing what he did - he just has to get her to listen as he spills his secrets. Watching him fight for her and seeing that they have always only loved each other was incredible. Foster is incredibly loyal and protective. Talia is a bit self-conscious about her professional life, and I just wanted to take her by the hand and cheer her on! Foster becomes her cheerleader and I love him for that - and plenty of other reasons. I just loved their story and ultimately this entire family!

🎧 Connor Crais voiced Foster is this dual narration and he has such a nice voice — it’s deep yet soft. The tone is so nice and he does a great job showing emotion through his voice. He has become one of my favs! I haven’t listened to Cindy Kay before but she did a nice job as Talia. She was able to really show the frustration Talia felt in multiple situations, I could really feel Talia’s emotions through Cindy’s voice. The only thing that did bother me slightly was her tendency to use high rise intonation or upspeak.

Great audio reread

Talia and Foster’s story broke my heart and then mended it back together ❤️ Talia is SUCH a strong person but really struggled internally with her personal life AND professional life. Foster was straight to the point and knew what he wanted. And I truly loved that Talia didn’t give in to him so easily. This story, overall had both angst and chemistry and their love was so raw and real, it was just truly such an amazing story!!

Worst off off the series

Seriously? Fairy tales make more sense than this far fetched drama of lover marrying best friend because of danger! Then coming back into your life after 7 years because he still loves you and although they’ve been a happy little family (best friend had kid by another guy but lover raised as his) you’re supposed to believe they’ve been nothing but “friends” living in the same house, raising a child, hell he even talks about doing the lawn work! YUCK! I wish I could return this and remove it from my memory.

Garnet Flats by Devney Perry

Tropes/Themes:
-MF contemporary romance
-Second chance romance
-UFC fighter (H) x Doctor (h)
-Single parent
-Small town
-Standalone (3rd in a series)

This was just not for me. I was less concerned about the specifics of what the hero did and more concerned with how quickly he was forgiven and his sheer lack of groveling. I’m intrigue by the setup for Jasper Vale though.

CWs for cheating (up for interpretation), blackmailing, extortion

Don't waste your credit. this story is dumb.

The storyline is dumb and made even worst by the awful narrators. The female lead is so gullible, no way in heck any NORMAL woman wouldn't open he legs so quickly after such a dumb excuse for dumping her to marry HER BEST FRIENDS. I WISH I COULD RETURN THIS BOOK. I DIDNT KNOW YOU CAN ONLY RETURN BOOKS BOUGHT WITH CREDIT. This BOOK SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE.

Awesome narrators!

This book has a lot more going on than what’s on the surface and I am all for it! What seems like a second chance, small town romance turns into a much bigger story with unexpected twists. This book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone but I would definitely recommend the series.

Short and sweet

I loved the first two in this series so much. This wasn’t bad at all. Just too simple for me compared to the first two books. Still enjoyed it and can’t wait for the fourth book! I love this world!

Just skip this one

I loved this series... until this book. I had to listen at super speed to bare getting through this. I'm sure there are books that Cindy Kay is a good fit for, but the part of a 20-something woman in an emotionally-charged romance is NOT it. Conner's narration somewhat redeemed the audio. The story was... not the best. one of those where silly misunderstanding could have been resolved with a two minute conversation. Save your credit.

Love this second chance story!

I love Talia and Fosters story!!
Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the female narration, it was too Nasal and I didnt feel it suited Talia or her description.

Loved this book

This was a reread for me so I think 4.5/5 is my score because I pictured some of the voices different. I love the writing style and the story, however I prefer the first 2 books.
A great listen and I absolutely love the MMC! SWOON!

Not as compelling as the prior series

A nice story but not on the same level as the prior books. Great performance & an easy listen but the flat storyline left much to be desired. A shame really as it had the potential to be great.
