Publisher's summary

Sometimes people come into a person’s life and make their heart skip a beat.

Those people are called cops.

Well, one cop in particular.

A SWAT officer for the Kilgore Police Department, to be specific.

The first time Avery Flynn saw Derek Roberts, she was photographing him for the first annual Kilgore Police Department SWAT calendar. He was leaned back in his squad car, shirtless, and giving her a smile that was completely between them. A smile that hinted at what he wanted to do to her later.

When she scrounges up the courage to ask him out after the photoshoot, he laughs in her face.

Well, screw you, too, Mr. February.

Derek Roberts never really paid attention to the photographer.

She was a mousy girl who dressed like a 12-year-old girl. Her tight leggings, extra-baggy Star Trek t-shirt denoting her a Klingon captain, and her surprisingly clean Chucks didn’t leave much of an impression.

Now, the outfit that she was in weeks after he rebuffed her? Yeah, now that caught his attention.

Too bad that happens when he’s trying to save her from what’s sure to be death thanks to an unhinged native Texan who’s convinced she was the reason he lost his last chance at a million dollars.

When he tries to save her, she tells him she’d rather take a cattle prod to the forehead than go anywhere with him.

Challenge. Accepted.

This story had it ALL!!

Totally went into this excepting it to be a nice easy rom-com. I hadn't read or listened to anything else by this author, but have always heard such fabulous things. I grabbed it because it has one of my absolute favorite narrators, Tim Paige and though it would be a nice easy thing to listen to. Then BAM. She hits you with all of the feels. Avery hasn't had it easy. She has experienced the death of both of her parents on top of other tragedies and somehow she still keeps it together. Then Derek comes in and sweeps her off her feet and takes care of her through everything.
This audio really had it all. A great story line, tons of emotions and absolutely stellar narrators. I don't think Tim or Lucy could give a bad performance if they tried. I was literally sobbing at many points in the book, but then I was laughing hysterically at the chapter titles.
Overall, super highly recommend it.

Meh

Story wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great either. The story was just lacking. And frankly I felt bad for Avery. I felt like the author really hated this character Because of all the crap this character had to deal with.

Lucy Rivers and Tim Paige deserve 5 stars!

I have not read this author before and will not seek her out now. I mean this seriously- does she hate women?! The female main character not only has both of her parents die- then she's bullied nearly to paralysis?! THEN BEYOND THAT?! LLV must genuinely hate women. What a bummer.

3.75 STARS

First book by this author and not at all what I was expecting. I teared up in the beginning and felt horrible for Avery. The rest of the book was a train wreck you couldn't look away from. Anything and everything happened to that poor girl! I wish we would've had more about the way the h/H's relationship developed without so many time jumps. Overall I enjoyed the book and I was invested in the characters.

Narration was 5 stars for both narrators! This was my first Tim Paige book and he did not disappoint. Both were able to pull my right in and make me feel all the emotions.

Avery, Avery, Avery 😭😭😭💜💜💜

(Derek & Avery): TRIGGERS: bullying, assault, attempted murder, attempted insurance fraud. Oh man… this book had me in my feelings for almost the entirety. LLV really knows how to rip your heart out and have you ugly crying. Avery has been through it. You know how when it rains, it pours. That's Avery's life in a nutshell. She just can't catch a break. So why not add a little embarrassment to that when she's rejected by the sexy Derek Roberts. Derek is Luke's son and while he's definitely noticed Avery, he's also aware that she's too young. But when life continues to kick her where she's down, he makes his choice. I love these two together. They are so hot and so sweet. I also love how the entire KPD became what she needed and rallied around her. I was kind of surprised about the onion layers that were consistently being peeled back about her parents. I was not expecting that at all but it was so good. Really enjoyed this book.

Great story

I enjoyed the story. Twists and turns kept me engaged. I wasn't a fan of the female narrators male voice, but she did wonderful as herself. Can't wait for the next book!

Love the story. Good narrators.

Love this one. Love the title. My favorite title of all the books in the swat 2.0 series. Narrators are good. Just all positive. Nothing really negative to say

Avery and Derek

Avery and Derek were simply perfect for one another. Lani Lynn Vale never disappoints. We are treated with a heartfelt, suspenseful, entertaining, and beautiful journey of two people who become friends amongst a lot of heartache. Derek’s undeniable heart provides a wonderful reason for Avery to hold her head high and move forward. I loved this book.

Fries Before Guys

Avery goes through so many tragic situations that you will find yourself crying for her in multiple places. This story has quite a few twists that you may not see coming but everything wraps up perfectly in the end. I really enjoyed the narration and how well they brought this book to life.
