Publisher's Summary

Luke Roberts came to the small, lazy town of Kilgore, Texas, with one thing on his mind: forgetting. He wanted to forget why he left. Forget those emerald green eyes that haunted his dreams. And forget how it felt to have his heart ripped out of his chest by a woman who didn't like the fact that he had a child. It was something he'd been doing a damn fine job of doing, too. Until Reese smashed through every one of his defenses and made him feel again.

Reese Doherty was just trying to do the best for her little girl. So she moved to the little boomtown nearly an hour from where she grew up to be the school nurse for Kilgore's littlest people. That's where she met him. The SWAT officer, the man that would change her life forever.

But Luke was a hero. A man used to risking his life to make the world a safer place. Something Reese had to decide whether she could handle or not. Preferably before her and her daughter became too attached.

Just when she was ready to give him her whole heart, her world took a huge hit, and everything she thought she knew wasn't as it seemed.

Luke wasn't a quitter, though. Damn far from it, and he'd prove to her that he'd be there when the dust settled.

Contains mature themes.

Awesome 😎

I wish the female heroine 🦸‍♀️ was a little more independent, ass kicker and didn’t give in to easily. A little more grittier.
Over all, LLV is awesome. Great series

Top five favorite

I adore this book. This is one of my all time favorite books. (Since I read hundreds a year, that says something) I’ve probably read/listened to it 20+ times. There is enough drama to keep me interested, but Nothing that has me rolling my eyes and slapping my forehead.
Our H and h are both single parents, and I love how Lani writes in a way that the kids aren’t forgotten and they are age appropriate and have flushed out personalities.
Luke and Reese are adorable. They bicker, they flirt and they have real give and take.
And I really enjoy the narrators they chose for this book.

Easy love story. 1POV. HEA. Standalone.

Overall a great story. Although standalone, you get more info on the characters from the Rejects.

Good story but narrator ruins it.

I just can't take listening to C.J. Bloom. She ruins it for me. Good story, but can't do the audio version.

Great book

I love the story and the narrative of both

CJ Bloom is the best woman narrator I make sure to listen to every book she narrates.

Lani Lynn Vale continues to draw me in with her books 📚 Luke and Reese’s insta love relationship really went the distance! The only thing that I found fault with was that Reese’s job as a school nurse wasn’t referred to again after mentioning that she was out sick for 8 days. As a school nurse she has to return to work at some point! She couldn’t just fall off the grid ! On he other hand, both CJ Bloom and Jeremy York did a fantastic job narrating! This was a pleasurable listening experience.

oh hum

Was hoping I had found a good series, but nothing fresh, story was a version I have heard time and time again. Why do authors think you have to put loads and loads of profanity in a story. It doesn't enhance a story line one bit and a bigger percentage of people really don't talk like that. Performance was very good.

Loved the story line.

But I struggled big time with the female narrator doing the male voices and vice versa just doesn't work in my opinion

Love it

I've read all of Lani Lynn Vale's books and wanted to do a re-read with her new ones coming out but didn't not have time so these audible versions were perfect. Took me a little getting used to someone else's voice reading the books and not mine but they are all so enjoyable.........

Not for me

Felt like there were chunks missing in the story. Didn’t hate it, though I doubt I’ll read anything else by this author.
