Publisher's Summary

Essence and Blackboard best-selling author Beverly Jenkins writes passionate, historically-grounded stories of betrayal and redemption.

Beginning in 1864, Through the Storm chronicles the tumultuous lives of onetime lovers Raimond Le Veq and Sable Fontaine. The Le Veq family was a proud, prominent black New Orleans family until their fortune was plundered in the chaos of the Civil War. It's the charge of former Union Major Raimond Le Veq to restore the lost wealth of his family.

Raimond once loved a woman--the lusty, beautiful, and complex former slave, Sable Fontaine--but she coldly betrayed him during the war. When Raimond's mother inexplicably chooses Sable as his bride-to-be, Raimond doesn't know if he will ever be able to trust the treacherous Sable again.

About Beverly Jenkins, The Detroit Free Press says she is "[H]eading for superstar status." Kim Staunton's sensuous narration will thoroughly satisfy all connoisseurs of fine romance.

Through the Storm

This is a wonderful historic romance. This is the first book I have listened to from this author but I will definitely listen to more. I still find it hard to believe that slavery actually existed at one time. The history was fascinating while intertwined with a steamy romance. I especially liked that all the hot and steamy parts happened in the context of marriage. I enjoy Christian fiction, but often times I wish they would give a few more details. Overall, great book, very entertaining and uplifting. Jennifer

Fascinating Story

This civil war story from the perspective of a former female slave is a joy to listen to.

A different perspective

I found the intermingling if history and romance a little awkward at times. However, it taught me a lot about the era that I did not realize. Additionally, it was well narrated. I came to care a lot about the characters. I may listen again, just to here the history lesson again. I feel very proud of those who sacrificed to make things better for our country.

Too Much!!!!

I had a really hard time finishing this book. There were way too many historical facts (though interesting) and characters added to this story. Too much of it read like a history book. I also really wish the book focused just on Sable's struggling to escape Morris until his death. The author had so many opportunities to make this a really good book but she let them pass her by.

Good

I liked this story! I like that we get a little bit of history to Ryan’s story mixed in. I don’t like him in this story though. I want to go back and listen to temptress to see if Ryan and Andrew ever connect with Sable again.

Just ok

The story is just not very interesting after the first few chapters. The reader is not bad just not good. I can truly hear the spit in her mouth. I have listened to other books by this author and this was one of the hardest to get through.
