Publisher's summary

A father and daughter try to survive the steady decline of all they know in this haunting thriller from award-winning author Ronald Malfi.

First the birds disappeared.

Then the insects took over.

Then the madness began.

They call it Wanderer's Folly - a disease of delusions, of daydreams and nightmares. A plague threatening to wipe out the human race.

After two years of creeping decay, David Arlen woke up one morning thinking that the worst was over. By midnight, he's bleeding and terrified, his wife is dead, and he's on the run in a stolen car with his eight-year-old daughter, who may be the key to a cure.

Ellie is a special girl - deep, insightful - and she knows David is lying to her. Lying about her mother. Lying about what they're running from. And lying about what he sees when he takes his eyes off the road.

Apocalyptic Foreboding Novel

The main strength of this novel is the sense of dread in a fading world. It is an unrelenting depressing book. This is actually a good thing if you like a realistic setting and characters. The characters are well-developed. There could have been more action, but the book takes place over a few days except for the flashbacks that chart the beginning of the plague. The narration was mediocre with the female voices especially suffering.

Not REALLY a Zombie story

Would you try another book from Ronald Malfi and/or Tom Taylorson?

I Don't Know.

Would you recommend The Night Parade to your friends? Why or why not?

If they're interested in medium pace, low action... then yes.

Which character – as performed by Tom Taylorson – was your favorite?

David.Tom Taylorson does a great job with the characters. He actually made the story ok to listen too.

Was The Night Parade worth the listening time?

Not really. Actually, I stopped 3/4's the way through, and may finish it sometime in the future, probably. I mean, I just became bored with it . The story does not have enough action, or any scare factor to it. It reminds me a little bit of Stephen Kings's "Fire Starter", just with a lot less impact, and story telling style.

Any additional comments?

If you looking for a fast paced, Horror/Action story, then try another audio book. The story isn't bad, it just didn't hold me. To be fair, it wasn't a style for my taste.

Overall good, but left a little to be desired.

The story was a slow degradation into hopelessness that left one somber note that only left the reader with a single grain of hope. It was a good read that jersey the emotional heartstrings, especially at the end.

The audible performer could use a bit of work on his "little girl voice", but I don't hold that against him.

I do wish a bit more of the disease would have been explained.

Great Book

This is a must read. Both the writing and the story are done amazingly well. Malfi twists a tale that is both believable and imaginative at the same time.

Hidden Jewel

What a great find! I love this author’s take on an end-of-the-world scenario. Very cool mix of science with a sprinkling of the supernatural.

Narration was great, too.

Definitely worth a credit

I cried at the end

Essentially, this is a story about a father's love. And at the end, I cried. The performance was smooth and calming, only complain is his acting on women's screaming, which is a bit irratating. Overall, I kept listening without trouble. Love this one.
