Publisher's summary
Tracee is a runaway bride and kleptomaniac. Lana's an audacious beauty and a recovering alcoholic. Rita is a holy-roller minister's wife, desperate to escape her marriage and discover whether she actually has a mind of her own.
One warm summer's night, these three women go on the lam together. Their car breaks down on a rural highway in North Carolina, and they're forced to seek shelter in a seemingly abandoned nightclub - which is where they meet Marcel. And soon everything changes.
Marcel, you see, is a lion, a retired circus performer stuck in a cage in this godforsaken roadhouse. And through admiration - one might even say love - for Marcel, our heroines find a way to confront their complicated pasts and fight for the strange, embracing relationships they've formed out in the middle of nowhere. They ultimately navigate their way back to their own hearts - and ours.
Written with the deftness, humor, and sparkling wit that have marked her books, plays, and movies, Delia Ephron's The Lion Is In is an unforgettable story of friendship, courage, love - and learning to salsa with the king of the jungle.

Everything about 15-year-old Cat's new town in rural Michigan is lonely and off-kilter until she meets her neighbor, the manic, beautiful, pill-popping Marlena. Story
Charles Wang is mad at America. A brash, lovable immigrant businessman who built a cosmetics empire and made a fortune, he's just been ruined by the financial crisis. Now all Charles wants is to get his kids safely stowed away so that he can go to China and attempt to reclaim his family's ancestral lands - and his pride. Outrageously funny and full of charm, The Wangs vs. the World is an entirely fresh look at what it means to belong in America - and how going from glorious riches to (still name-brand) rags brings one family together in a way money never could.

Wonderfully touching book. Now one of my faves!
How can one pack so many human emotions into just one book. Delia Ephron is a genius of soul searching with happy endings. Loved it. After reading her 3rd book, Ephron is now undesputably one of my favorite writers. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You will laugh, you will cry, you will be at the edge of your seat, finding that you can't possibly wait another moment for what happens next.
I just wished the narrator was not rushing so much. Maybe she just could not wait to tell the story? I had to slow down the speed by at least 10% to get to normal, also I could not distinguish between any of the female voices, but maybe it's just me. Anyway, thanks so much for many hours of listening enjoyment.

Bad Logic On My Part
I've been waiting for other reviews to show up, hoping someone would encourage me to go on, that perhaps I just didn't get it with this one. But a month later and nothing.
It was an impulse purchase - my reasoning (or thought flow) went something like this:
"I need a light fun read; two women on the run, in a convertible with a lion!? What great whimsy; I like lions; I loved Richard Parker (tiger in Life of Pi); I liked Thelma and Louise; 'learning to salsa with the king of the jungle?!'; sounds like fantastic fun!"
...never got to the salsa lesson. After about 2 hours, in an almost dazed state, I realized that I had picked such a light piece of fluff that it had floated right in one ear and out the other. So, I researched this one, and found out people loved it! It was "moving" and "heartfelt" and a "hilarious must read"! Isn't that how it goes...one man's trash is another man's treasure. I'm glad people liked it. I really liked the cover picture, so I gave it an extra star for that reason. (Ouch)
