Publisher's summary

Steel Magnolias meets The Help in this Southern debut novel sparkling with humor, heart, and feminine wisdom.

Twelve-year-old CeeCee Honeycutt is in trouble. For years, she has been the caretaker of her psychotic mother, Camille-the tiara-toting, lipstick-smeared laughingstock of an entire town-a woman trapped in her long-ago moment of glory as the 1951 Vidalia Onion Queen. But when Camille is hit by a truck and killed, CeeCee is left to fend for herself. To the rescue comes her previously unknown great-aunt, Tootie Caldwell.

In her vintage Packard convertible, Tootie whisks CeeCee away to Savannah's perfumed world of prosperity and Southern eccentricity, a world that seems to be run entirely by women. From the exotic Miz Thelma Rae Goodpepper, who bathes in her backyard bathtub and uses garden slugs as her secret weapons, to Tootie's all-knowing housekeeper, Oletta Jones, to Violene Hobbs, who entertains a local police officer in her canary-yellow peignoir, the women of Gaston Street keep CeeCee entertained and enthralled for an entire summer.

Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Fantastic Story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

absolutely! I came across this audiobook purely by chance and was so completely impressed by the story line and performance.

What about Jenna Lamia’s performance did you like?

Her voice sounds so child-like, but not in an annoying way, and I felt that she really nailed the southern accent

Simply delightful

It is rare a book can make me laugh but this one did on several occasions. I loved the characters and the story. I was sad when it ended. I will read more of this author.

I won't be returning this one.

Beth Hoffman writes with so much warmth and wisdom and Jenna Lamia narrated it so well I had to look her up on the internet to see how old she really is. I couldn't believe the same person was doing all those voices, and doing them so well. I almost didn't buy this book because I thought it was going to be too sad. I'm so glad that I did get it because now it's one of my favorites. I'm going to listen to it again and just write down all the wise sayings she comes up with. Loved this book.

Saving Ceecee...

Touching book. Great story. I loved listening to it! I picked this book because Jenna Lamia was a narrator for the Help and I'm glad I did.

Unexpectedly wonderful book!

What did you love best about Saving Ceecee Honeycutt?

He hooked me from the very beginning with perfect pace & characters you care about.

What other book might you compare Saving Ceecee Honeycutt to and why?

Joshilyn Jackson novels because of the multitude of quirky Southern characters in her novels & this novel and also because of the humor being very similar to that of Joshilyn Jackson novels.

What about Jenna Lamia’s performance did you like?

LOVE, love, love Jenna Lamia in everything she does. I actually chose this book because I love Jenna Lamia's voice so I thought I'd give the book a shot. Jenny Lamia can make even a not-so-good book tolerable, but this book combined with Jenna Lamia's voice= perfection!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The scene with the hummingbird, but I can't say more without posting a spoiler. :D

A Lovely Sentiment..

Beautifully written and superbly narrated with funny, lovable, eccentric characters; The story takes place in a mostly ideal world (a tad unrealistic at times). Saving Ceecee delivers a poetic message of feminine strength, wisdom, resilience and camaraderie.

Love, Love, Love

When I started listening to this one I had to go back and say, "Wasn't it described as a laugh out loud book"? The beginning was so tragic. My heart ached for Cee Cee. Then she went to Savannah and the laughs begin, not all laughs, but a lot of them. Read by the narrator of The Help, Jenna Lamia has a wondeful voice for this southern settings. All of the rich charachters of the woman around Cee Cee also reminded me of the Help.

A wonderful book, one I will always remember.

I listened to this book twice and enjoyed it just as much the second time. The characters seem to live and there are so many truths that one can learn from. I think everyone from young adult to senior citizen would love this story. I highly recommend it.
