Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! is the funny, serious, and compelling new novel by Fannie Flagg, author of the beloved Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (and prize-winning co-writer of the classic movie).

Once again, Flagg's humor and respect and affection for her characters shine forth. Many inhabit small-town or suburban America. But this time, her heroine is urban: a brainy, beautiful, and ambitious rising star of 1970s television. Dena Nordstrom, pride of the network, is a woman whose future is full of promise, her present rich with complications, and her past marked by mystery.

Among the colorful cast of characters are:

Sookie, of Selma, Alabama, Dena's exuberant college roommate, who is everything that Dena is not; she is thrilled by Dena's success and will do everything short of signing autographs for her; Sookie's a mom, a wife, and a Kappa forever

Dena's cousins, the Warrens, and her aunt Elner, of Elmwood Springs, Missouri, endearing, loyal, talkative, ditsy, and, in their way, wise

Neighbor Dorothy, whose spirit hovers over them all through the radio show that she broadcast from her home in the 1940s

Sidney Capello, pioneer of modern sleaze journalism and privateer of privacy, and Ira Wallace, his partner in tabloid television

Several doctors, all of them taken with--and almost taken in by-Dena

There are others, captivated by a woman who tries to go home again, not knowing where home or love lie.

Loved this story and really love that the author reads her own books! Like her other books, this one ends with a nice twist.

Enjoyable story, with a typical Fannie Flagg twist

Would you listen to Welcome to the World, Baby Girl again? Why?

This was a wonderful book, but when I looked at the info again and saw that it was ABRIDGED, I thought why? Why would Audible be so ridiculous and even begin to sell only an ABRIDGED version of this book. I did not see an unabridged and am so disappointed in Audible and the producers of this book. Give me a break. I just finished Washington, A life - 42 hours and was thrilled. Then I find that ridiculous Audible produces an ABRIDGED version of the fabulous book. You should be ashamed!

ABRIDGED? You must be kidding!

Fannie Flagg can really paint a picture of a place we all want to live, and people we all want to know.

Elmwood Everyone's favorite place

If you could sum up Welcome to the World, Baby Girl in three words, what would they be?

Entertaining, Enveloping, Addicting

What did you like best about this story?

The introduction of Elmwood Springs and the thread of activity of the the town running throughout this book. It gives Dina's life an attachment to it, although she herself rejects their craziness. Giving us the main story of Dina Nordstrom's life as only Flagg cab tell it, it is strong, touching and quite funny. Dina as a baby throughout her life, becoming a strong independent woman to softening her to something she herself, never saw.

What about Fannie Flagg’s performance did you like?

Fannie Flagg reads these stories just as she has written them. We get he the benefit of the nuances and characteristic voices that she has meant them to have. I truly enjoy her storytelling.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Welcome, to the World you never knew you missed!

Any additional comments?

Love the narration of Fannie Flagg. Her storytelling brings her books to life. The book is the beginning of world of Elmwood Springs, featuring one of it's characters, Dina Nordstrom.
