Publisher's Summary

National best-selling author Mary Monroe has drawn favorable comparisons to Toni Morrison and Zora Neale Hurston. In this sequel to the moving novel, God Don't Like Ugly, Annette Goode has finally found a man who loves her. But at a pre-wedding ceremony, her ugly past is revealed, and her world falls apart. When she reunites with her childhood sweetheart, it seems like everything might be fine - until her long-absent friend, who hides a deadly secret, comes back into Annette's life.

good read but for this to be the second book in a series there was no reason to take almost 10 chapters going over what was in the first book. made it dry until it actually started. hope book three does not do the same

SKIP BOOK ONE

How this author had the nerve to spend the first SEVENTEEN chapters, rehashing the entire story from the first book, is a wonder. Any reader would know that the second book is supposed to be a contuation of the first;so why bother with the refresher? The main character, supposedly has become older, wiser and more self-confident. This was not the case. She's still giving the impression that she loves/forgives the old fool that abused her for most of her childhood. And, she continues to fall for weak-minded men, although she professes to have changed for the better. I like the fact that she finally became comfortable with her body. The moral of this story is that telling the truth would have saved everyone a lot of heartache. I also was disappointed with the reader, who is nowhere as good as the first narrator. At one point, she even called, RHODA, RHONDA.

Nice continuation but lots of repeating

A good portion of this book is spent recapping events from God Don't Like Ugly. Overall, still a good message and writing. I preferred the narrator from the first book as the narrator to this sequel didn't seem to have the ability to use dialects representative of the genders, era, and locale. Because of that, this is where the series ends for me audible.

Live this series

As others have commented in reviews, the author does spend a lot of time catching people up on details from the first book. But it was only mildly annoying to me. I however people shit only read these books in order because of that. I liked the narrator and I thought the story was powerful. I really enjoyed the in-depth characters. I can't wait to read the next book.

Great read!

I wish so much time wasn't spent on familiarizing the reader on the first book. other than that, I loved it!
