Full of suspense!

I couldn't decide whether to dislike or pity the main character, which shows how talented the author is with character development. I understood the character's motivations and felt like I was inside her head ... but I'm not foolish enough to get in such a twisted mess! Very nice production and narrator. Highly recommended!

Quite the appropriate title!

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book! The main character evolves and during her evolution, the listener is able to identify with her, even when her behavior is unacceptable and against her core values. All of the characters have issues that are apparent to everyone but to those who matter most. The author does it again, bringing her characters to life. The narrator does a great job and the listener finds that she or he cannot put this audio book down after listening to just one chapter!

White Noise

I struggled to finish this one. Literally. It took me at least 3 weeks. The main character was just too dumb for me to connect with and the ending certainly wasn't worth the 3 weeks that it took me to listen.

This one isn't one I recommend.

Very good listen

Would you consider the audio edition of In Sheep's Clothing to be better than the print version?

I've never heard a audio that's better than print. I'm a reader but choose audio due to the type of work I do doing the day. Once I'm home in the evening I read only.

What did you like best about this story?

I love that Trudy finally saw that Ann's life wasn't perfect. That everyone lives in a glass house at least once in their life.

Have you listened to any of Susan Spain’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

My first listen by Susan Spain.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, indeed. I have read every Mary Monroe book and now I will listen to every Mary Monroe book.

what in the entire hell?

i am thunderstruck by the shenanigans in this book. i enjoy a good plot twist with some psychological analysis just like the next person but there was so much trifling behavior and suspect logic with reference to how someone would deal with trauma that I couldn't decide how I felt about anyone let alone the super tedious main character. for trauma to be such a major plot point it was dealt with so dismissively and reductively that I was left feeling annoyed. It was almost an affront to people suffering from the emotional and mental ramifications of trauma.

for as much time as was spent on the reiteration of the truly absurd reasoning behind most of the behavior in each chapter, it seems as though some of that time could have been spent on offering more nuance or complexity to the characters.

The most perplexing thing is that there was so much ripe fruit to expore about race, class, gender and trauma but it was all left on the vine to make room for cringe-worthy tropes that perpetuate the laziest stereotypes about black people. that it took over 10hrs of character development to get there and that once you did there were virtually no sympathetic characters or reasonable resolution to any storyline was disappointing and disheartening, to say the least. this is my first Mary Monroe novel and id heard such great things about her writing. I may try another title, but I'm not hopeful.

I will offer that Susan Spain is one of my favorite voice actors and was the main reason I chose the title and stuck with it but this story wasnt it. Do check out Susan Spaind other work though she is the Beyoncé of narration because she was able to make even this book funny at times.

Provocative!

Wow! I am a fan of Mary Monroe and she did not let me down with this one. Trudy is a true character of what happens when so many awful events befall your life and you do not know how to handle them. Wonderful read! I wanted to hear more!
