Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. André Aciman's critically acclaimed debut novel is a frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion.

I must be missing something

I wanted to love this book. I wanted to experience all that the other reviewers had experienced. Instead I found myself waiting for something to happen or to be deeply touched by something. The time wasted by the main characters is annoying and frustrating. The time spent listening to the book leaves me confused as to what I just spent so long listening to..... and why I spent that long listening.

Crying in public

That’s what the ending of this book had me doing. Crying in the middle of a restaurant, and immediately on the last words as read by Armie Hammer, rewinding to hear the last few minutes all over again. Then I wrote a love poem to my husband. Great book! Great performance.

Profound sensuality~

An absolutely beautiful, daring and complex novel! Aciman's economy of style is at once direct and poetic. He handles a controversial subject with such sensitivity, frankness and unabashed romanticism that swoons at every turn. Armie Hammer's rich baritone, and elegant reading is superb. I will return to this again and again.

Equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking

This story is both beautiful and heartbreaking. “Call Me By Your Name” is one of the most incredible novels to have ever written. This love story about Elio and Oliver will touch your heart and then break it into a million pieces. This is one of those novels and stories that will stay with you for the rest of your life. “Call Me By Your Name” is not only a brilliant masterpiece of LGBT literature, but it is also one of the greatest romance and coming of age stories to ever be written.

Masterful!

André Aciman has written a masterpiece in Call Me By Your Name. The ease of voice and the effortless flow of words through Elio’s point of view is exquisite. The exploration and journey of finding yourself and of sexual awakening, together with a sort of lust, makes this story even more relatable as we’ve all had unattainable crushes we wish would become something more. Now onto Armie Hammer’s magnificent performance. He nails the narration in CMBY and really encamptures the listener’s attention all throughout the story. Armie has a sort of non-chalantness to his voice that almost feels like he was born to read this story. All in all, with the masterful writing of Aciman and the beautiful narration by Hammer, this book deserves all of the praise and more.

Boring

The writing was very dry. It also didn't help that the narrator's voice is quite possibly the most boring voice I've ever heard. The movie is much better.

Beautiful and bittersweet

A beautifully haunting and bittersweet love story that makes you ache and wish you could experience a love like it.

The narration by Armie is perfect. His smooth voice takes the story to a deeper level and makes you feel like it is playing out around you.

The movie should definitely be watched as well!

Breathtaking and evocative.

I was fully enchanted by this text - Armie Hammer was convincing in his portrayal of Elio.

Beautifully written - filled me with joy and heartbreak in equal measure.

Unbelievably Uninteresting

Any additional comments?

A gay romance in 80s Italy between a 17 year old and a grown American man is not exactly the story that would spring to mind as boring.Yet this novel somehow does it.

The characters, especially Elio who's narrating, are wholly uninteresting. The narrative flips from English to Italian at times which is simply unhelpful and the abundance of obscure philosophical references does not really add anything - just magnifies the dullness of the characters. There is little genuine connection between Elio and Oliver, it feels less like actual love and more like obsessive lust that Elio feels towards Oliver, it feels there are far more words dedicated to describing Oliver's perfect physique than actual dialogue between the two characters, for example. It's not the kind of touching love story that you want to read about, but the kind of dull shallow love that most teenagers have.

Armie Hammer's voice narration is superb, but for me, that was the only highlight I can take from this audiobook.

Gorgeous story.

A beautiful and honest love story.
I love that life isn't all happiness, but also that the pots of happy we can dip into throughout our lives.
Armie Hammer does an incredible job bringing the story to life.
I cried at the end.

Required LGBT reading

Completely entrancing, Armie Hammer is the dreamiest narrator with a voice that captivates and draws you into the story, until, before you know it, it's all over, and we're left to wonder if we will ever forget Elio and Oliver.

For those who saw the film, the audiobook, narrated by the actor who plays Oliver, will bring you even deeper into the story, which those who felt abandoned by the ending of the film, will certainly appreciate.

Sexy, sensual and beautiful

This book is so intimate and evocative I took to only listening to it when I was alone. Armie Hammer reads it beautifully and the descriptions of young love, Italy and summer are simply stunning. This book will hopefully make you remember your first intense love and the breathtaking beauty of intellect and acceptance.
A wonderful book for the open-minded.

A moving story of young love

This book is beautifully written and beautifully read. Armie Hammer does just justice to the book with his reading, he seems right into the character. I enjoyed this very much.

Lush

I have read this book in its physical form and on first reading was slightly shocked at certain sections (you know the ones). Listening to this gave me a much better understanding of the characters and the story and the parts that had shocked me became tender and beautiful in Armie Hammer's reading. The man has a voice of silk.

This is an excellent story for anyone who likes to understand how people pine for others; how situations can be read many ways; and how every moment bleeds importance when you are young and everything seems just out of your reach.

True romance

The authors use of language to paint this story is beautiful, if at times a little prone to wandering. The narrator is a perfect choice, especially if you are also a fan of the recent movie. A truly romantic story that I think anyone can find a part of themselves in if they have ever been in love.

Boring and unengaging - couldn't finish it

I kept hoping this story would get better but when it hadn't by chapter 8 I was done.
