Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. André Aciman's critically acclaimed debut novel is a frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion.

Critic Reviews

"...Hammer's voice is brimming with such melody that, if you listen to it long enough, you can probably get drunk off it." (Vulture.com)

"...Armie Hammer (who plays Oliver in the movie) steps effortlessly into Elio's interior world. The result is staggering." (BookRiot)

Crying in public

That’s what the ending of this book had me doing. Crying in the middle of a restaurant, and immediately on the last words as read by Armie Hammer, rewinding to hear the last few minutes all over again. Then I wrote a love poem to my husband. Great book! Great performance.

Profound sensuality~

An absolutely beautiful, daring and complex novel! Aciman's economy of style is at once direct and poetic. He handles a controversial subject with such sensitivity, frankness and unabashed romanticism that swoons at every turn. Armie Hammer's rich baritone, and elegant reading is superb. I will return to this again and again.

Masterful!

André Aciman has written a masterpiece in Call Me By Your Name. The ease of voice and the effortless flow of words through Elio’s point of view is exquisite. The exploration and journey of finding yourself and of sexual awakening, together with a sort of lust, makes this story even more relatable as we’ve all had unattainable crushes we wish would become something more. Now onto Armie Hammer’s magnificent performance. He nails the narration in CMBY and really encamptures the listener’s attention all throughout the story. Armie has a sort of non-chalantness to his voice that almost feels like he was born to read this story. All in all, with the masterful writing of Aciman and the beautiful narration by Hammer, this book deserves all of the praise and more.

Equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking

This story is both beautiful and heartbreaking. “Call Me By Your Name” is one of the most incredible novels to have ever written. This love story about Elio and Oliver will touch your heart and then break it into a million pieces. This is one of those novels and stories that will stay with you for the rest of your life. “Call Me By Your Name” is not only a brilliant masterpiece of LGBT literature, but it is also one of the greatest romance and coming of age stories to ever be written.

Beautiful story

I’m not sure how I feel about this book. On one hand, I was totally mesmerized and deeply engrossed in it. On the other hand, I was a little bored, frustrated and confused. I guess that just makes it more like a real obsessive relationship. Elio is not in love with Oliver, he is obsessed and obsessive. Most of the story is Elio’s stream of consciousness, there is surprisingly little dialogue between the characters. Elio thinks one thing and then changes course and thinks the opposite. I found it frustrating to only have the story come from his extremely narrow voice. The timeline of the story didn’t make sense- they ignore each other for 2 weeks (according to Elio) and spend many, many days not talking but yet they have time in Oliver’s 6 weeks there to form this bond? This book is not an ode to first love, it’s an ode to crazy obsessions. There were a few passages that were pretty graphic and really cemented the idea that this love wasn’t the healthiest.
But can we all talk about how incredible, absolutely beautifully Armie Hammer read this?? His voice is so rhythmic, melodic, hypnotizing. I could feel Elio’s bitterness, surprise, feigned nonchalance, deep spiraling into Oliver. Armie couldn’t have done anything else to make it a better performance.
I’m definitely seeing this movie!

Beautiful and bittersweet

A beautifully haunting and bittersweet love story that makes you ache and wish you could experience a love like it.

The narration by Armie is perfect. His smooth voice takes the story to a deeper level and makes you feel like it is playing out around you.

The movie should definitely be watched as well!

Absolutely amazing

This audio book is amazing it effected me in so many ways. The ending made and cry and the emphasis on final statement ‘and call me by your name’ made me burst into wonderful tears of happiness and sadness all at once. I recommend this book to anyone who loves hopelessly romantic books and is willing to give in to the love of two people.

Good story but for some reason I didn’t like the narrator

It’s a good story not bad, might maybe lacking something. Preferred love Simon. To be honest didn’t like the narrator’s voice that much, maybe it didn’t match the protagonist’s voice or doesn’t sound like the age of the protagonist, he sounded a lot older and idk maybe lost the illusion or interest of the story.

There really is so much more to this book than just pure lust alone !

Love and loss can cut a swathe through all age, gender and nationality.
This book in equal measure is both gut wrenchingly sad and enormously uplifting and hopeful.
A book about life, which therefore must include lust, love and loss from whichever perspective you choose to view it.
Worth every one of the 5 stars I’ve awarded it.

Sexy, sensual and beautiful

This book is so intimate and evocative I took to only listening to it when I was alone. Armie Hammer reads it beautifully and the descriptions of young love, Italy and summer are simply stunning. This book will hopefully make you remember your first intense love and the breathtaking beauty of intellect and acceptance.
A wonderful book for the open-minded.

A moving story of young love

This book is beautifully written and beautifully read. Armie Hammer does just justice to the book with his reading, he seems right into the character. I enjoyed this very much.

Lush

I have read this book in its physical form and on first reading was slightly shocked at certain sections (you know the ones). Listening to this gave me a much better understanding of the characters and the story and the parts that had shocked me became tender and beautiful in Armie Hammer's reading. The man has a voice of silk.

This is an excellent story for anyone who likes to understand how people pine for others; how situations can be read many ways; and how every moment bleeds importance when you are young and everything seems just out of your reach.

Wonderful Experience

The author has done a brilliant job in narrating the story. very heart whelming and touching. It felt like I am living the life of Ellio not reading or hearing about his story. what a wonderful wonderful job. I am hungover with emotions even after finishing the book a while ago. The last sentence "when you shut the taxi door, look at me, hold my gaze and once more, call me by your name." gives me goosebumps. No more words other than a great and dear experience. Armie Hammer has done it again. without his voice and rendition skills, the book wouldn't be so enjoyable. Thanks Armie
