Publisher's Summary

In this electric and provocative debut novel, Amber Tamblyn blends genres of poetry, prose, and elements of suspense to give shape to the shocking narratives of victims of sexual violence, mapping the destructive ways in which our society perpetuates rape culture, brilliantly brought to life through a multi-voice performance featuring Glenn Davis, Ben Foster, Marc Maron, Jason Ritter, John Roberts, Russ Tamblyn, Amber Tamblyn, January Lavoy, Phoebe Strole, Robin Miles, Thérèse Plummer, Dan Bittner, James Fouhey, and Michael Crouch.

A violent serial rapist is on the loose, who goes by the name Maude. She hunts for men at bars, Online, at home - the place doesn’t matter, neither does the man. Her victims then must live the aftermath of their assault in the form of doubt from the police, feelings of shame, alienation from their friends and family, and the haunting of a horrible woman who becomes the phantom on which society projects its greatest fears, fascinations, and even misogyny. All the while the police are without leads and the media hound the victims, publicly dissecting the details of their attack.

What is extraordinary is how as years pass these men learn to heal, by banding together and finding a space to raise their voices. Told in alternating viewpoints signature to each voice and experience of the victim, this audiobook crackles with emotion, ranging from horror to breathtaking empathy.

As bold as it is timely, Any Man paints a searing portrait of survival and is a tribute to those who have lived through the nightmare of sexual assault.

Riveting!!!

This book was such an awesome piece to listen to. Tamblyn does wonders with the English language and to captivate sexual assault from a different perspective it makes you wonder. Great narration by everyone else who was involved. I listened to this book in one sitting!

Wow, just wow.

It is not a light read. But. Wow ... so much depth and realness that it is both painful and refreshing.

I've been finished with this for hours

I've been finished with this for hours and I cannot come up with a review that will do this book justice! This is NOT a #MeToo book... This IS a #MeToo book... This is NOT a #MeToo book... This IS a #MeToo book... This is NOT a #MeToo book... This IS a #MeToo book...

Once you read this book, you'll understand the lines above.

As a baby boomer, I'm at once astonished and amazed that society has taken THIS long to become vocal about sexual predation!

It happened to MANY of us! Are we stronger for enduring wordlessly? NO! Are we stronger for swallowing the pain and never EVER speaking of it or about it? NO!! Are we stronger than this #MeToo group of people? FUCK NO!!!

We were just so FRICKIN GULLIBLE that we listened when we were told to NEVER speak of these incidents, we buried them deep within our subconscious mind!

The #MeToo folks are getting it right!!!

I pray that the subtle encouragement or if not actual encouragement, at least the allowing for our children and even grandchildren to air these horrific tales. Now please understand my vocabular ignorance... when I say allow, I in NO WAY mean that the #MeToo people need our Permission to speak of this!!! But my vocabulary is lacking a word sufficient to express the way I feel about sexual predation and the (what should be MANDATORY) reporting to Law Enforcement of every actual incident!

It goes without saying that there have been and will continue to be unscroupulous people that cry WOLF. Those people vastly contribute to the "take it and shut up" attitude that us baby boomers were forced to accept.

Compassionate, educated and well motivated Law Enforcement Professional teams should be able to weed out the fake reports and Procecutors should have the discresion to seek charges based on the competent investigation of the teams of Law Enforcement Professionals. Those teams should be uniformed and plain clothed, with M.D.s, PhDs, Social Workers, Adult and Child Advocates and Judicial Advocates as well.

Where will the funding for these teams and their investigations cone from? I truly have no answer. Yet the damage created EVERYDAY both in the United States & around the world to our citizens is not just shameful but CRIMINAL.

Amber Tamblyn has created a Novel/novel that is shining a BRIGHT Light on what was to my generation, something that just happened...

CONGRATULATIONS Ms. Tamblyn!!!

A Must-Read for Everyone. Everyone.

Written in beautiful mixed-media prose, "Any Man" is a mosaic of narratives which together relay the horrors endured by the victims of a female serial rapist. The story is relayed by a collection of TV interviews, radio broadcasts, letters, confessions, Twitter threads, and online chat transcripts. Tamblyn's prose bleeds into poetry as these men purge their anguish. She is masterful in her use of repetition when landing punches and constructs beautiful parallels of language that gave me chills.

Full-cast is incredible and adds yet another layer to an already profound novel.

This book made my heart ache.

This book will start conversations.

This book is about the cycle of abuse and how we deal with the deepest trauma.

This book is a must-read for everyone. Everyone.

Well Done

I am still torn as to what to say about this book. I finished listening a couple of days ago. Yes, this was an Audible version. It was narrated by Glenn Davis, Robin Miles, Therese Plummer, Dan Bittner, James Fouhey, Michael Crouch, Ben Foster, Marc Maron. Very well acted out. Kept me awake even after I closed the Kindle and crawled under the covers. For that reason, I give the trigger warnings. Rape is the topic. The only difference is it is a man that is raped. Somehow it reads the same regardless of who is the victim. So pain and torture are somewhat spelled out. It doesn't matter the perp's gender either.

This could easily help those in the right frame of mind. It seems a therapy of sorts for the author. I do suggest if you get the chance and feel up to it to listen to the Audible version. Meanwhile, it is read at your own discretion. I love Amber Tamblyn. I saw her on a talk show and loved what she has to say about the #MeToo movement and feminism. I'm glad that men showed their support by acting out this story.

I hope this book gets a lot of readers. I think it can help many people. Just be warned.

Thought provoking, disturbing and intense.

I listened to the novel in one sitting. Each and every narrator was excellent and the entire work was beautifully performed. The pain and descriptions of the rapes were difficult and painful to read/listen to. I truly felt each man's pain, shame and humiliation. I enjoyed how the author gave us glimpses into each man's journey to healing from their life altering experiences.

I admit that I really wanted to know who this villainous woman was and disappointed that there wasn't a huge arrest and trial. But the novel's ending was more realistic and left me wanting more. A truly deep read.
