Publisher's summary

They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.

Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't - or won't - understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.

Demonica For Animal Lovers!

Eternal Rider is the first in a new series set in the Demonica world.
I loved this book as much as any from the Demonica series. The bad guys, the action, the romance, the end of the world...it's all great stuff, but Larissa Ione threw in an additional element that hooked me from the beginning: the animals. Animals in this book are essential to the story. The Horsemen aren't complete without their horses. I truly hope that the other horses are given as much "space on the page" in future books as Battle was given in Eternal Rider. I loved him almost as much as Hal..the hellhound puppy. I really want Hal (and family) to make at least brief appearances during the rest of the series. Familiar faces from the Demonica series are also present, and Hillary Huber did a wonderful job with the narration.
I'm looking forward to listening to book 2 and the release of book 3 and 4.

Hot, sexy and bad-assed horsemen of the Apocalypse

This was my first book by Larissa Ione. I find that she built a very complex world of the Horsemen. She showed how each of the horsemen is pulled by their other side even when their seals hadn’t broken yet. It was great to have a story built on the apocalyptic stories of the bible. It was very easy to envision the world she built.

I was very surprised at the gruff nature of Ares. I understand he is War, but I was still surprised. He is a tortured soul who doesn’t believe in love. So of course he gets matched up with Cara who is not looking for anything, especially not a man.

The story revolves are Ares and Cara. She is passed his agimortus (a way of passing the seal to someone else) but since she is human, the agimortus should kill her. It is only because of the bond with the hellhound puppy that she remains alive, but is slowly being drained of her life force. In the meantime, Pestilence is searching for Ares agimortus and when he discovers that Cara has it, she becomes his target.

The one thing that I thought was hard to swallow was the fact that they kept returning to Ares’ island even though Pestilence knows they are there. They are in hiding. How many times does he have to find them in the same place before they decide … gee maybe we should hide someplace else.

If you want smoking hot sex scenes, bad-ass characters, and a little apocalyptic action this is your book!

On Narration:
Hillary Huber’s voice was easy to listen to, mature, and sounded age-appropriate. Her male voices were good and do not to take away from the story. Overall, I think it was a very good narration.

Loved it!

Larissa Ione just keeps getting better and better and this one has it all: Great story, lush characters, dark enough to be enthralling, yummy sex scenes and twisted humor with a great ending. Major Keeper. Can't wait for the next one.

Fan-freaking-tastic!!!

Larissa Ione is one talented paranormal romance writer! I like to listen to paranormal romance books every once in a while but I am always more into the romance side than the paranormal side. Not with this book. Mrs. Ione has created such a rich, interesting, captivating world that catches your complete attention from the very beggining to the very end. This book is complex and I had a hard time the first few chapters keeping up with the many characters. The book even begins with a glossary of terms That I forgot half way through. Once I started to understand who was who and why they had two names then the story picked up and I loved every minute of it.

This book is a spin off from the Demonica series and I suggest that you listen to at least the first book of the Demonica series before listening to this one. This is an apocalyptic dark book but done so well it feels good. The romance is perfectly developed and the love scenes are amazing. This is such a well rounded story that you end up enjoying the romance, the action, the mystery and even the scary parts. I just finished this book and I'm starting Immortal Rider right away (which by the way has the same narrator Hillary Huber).

Narration: Hillary Huber is a great narrator! Even with a complicated story that has many characters you could always tell a different character was speaking. She added the right emotions to this book so that the scary suspenseful parts were more intense and the love scenes more pationate. I hope the publishers keep the same narrator for the rest of the series because she does a great job!

Any fond feelings I have for this book are overshadowed by the narrator. Is it just me or does her voice change volume levels way too much? Occasionally there is a constant level and the narration is great. But when I'm listening while working out I feel like I'm missing half of what she's saying. Please tell Hillary to back off on the "soft talking".

Wonderful series! Not to be missed!!

This series is excellent, and I can't believe I waited so long to read it. I suggest reading the Demonica series first, since this is a spin-off from the series.

This series is turning out better than Demonica, if that's possible.

High recommend to a sexy and completely engrossing series about the four hoursemen of the apocalypse. Very High Recommend to the first book- Eternal Rider: the story of Cara, a human who lives an isolated life after suffering PTSD, and her warrior Ares, or "War", one of the Horseman fighting to keep his seal from breaking and bringing on the apocalypse. Their story is wonderful and will be on my reread shelf.

I don't think the narrator is bad, though she isn't my favorite. I loved the narrator from Ione's Pleasure Unbound. Wish she had the series.

However, I am so happy that they are sticking to the narrator, unlike Demonica series. THANK YOU AND GREAT DECISION TO STICK WITH ONE NARRATER!!! It makes a big difference in the continuity of the series!

Love the story, but the narrator was irritating!

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator would slow down in parts that didn't need to be prolonged and she would whisper so I could barely hear her at times. Overall pace of the reading was slow and that says a lot because I do the majority of my

Any additional comments?

This is Larissa Ione's Spin-off story to the Demonica series which I enjoyed very much. It has new characters but it is still set in the same world as the Demonica series with some of the same main characters from that series playing minor roles in this new series. It is nice to hear about a lot of the older characters and how their lives have evolved as well as getting to meet the new characters and experiencing the trials and tribulations along with love and friendship that they have to face.

Decent story; ok performance

Interesting storyline. Mythology was fairly original

Didn't hate the reader's performance but I wasn't swept away by it. For those of you who have listened to Ray Porter reading Joe Ledger (Jonathan Mayberry).... Not even close. Still it didn't ruin it for me

Very cool premise

I really love the idea of this book and it's fairly well executed too. I really enjoyed the new twist on familiar characters. Being dropped right into the middle of the world is a great way to start things off. The premise was introduced well and quickly. I felt immediately like I knew what was going on. It wasn't until the human element was brought in that I started having issues.

The main female character's introduction to the non-human side of things was quite abrupt and jarring. It was well written though, because it did feel jarring to me too; so I could empathize.

The main male character was really well written and as believable as a character written as one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse can be believable. :)

The chemistry between the two characters was great and so was the development of their relationship.

However, some of the 'technical' terms that were used and some descriptions of the 'underworld' blurred together into a big mess of stuff I didn't really need to know to enjoy the book. Maybe that information will come in more as the series goes on, but it was a bit too much for this book.

I definitely plan to continue reading the series and will also seek out other books by this author.
