INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jewell, three women are connected by one man in this “gripping, shocking, masterful” (Freida McFadden, #1 New York Times bestselling author) thriller.

He’s the perfect man. It’s a perfect lie.

Nick Radcliffe is a man of substance and good taste. He’s exactly what newly widowed Nina Swann needs in her life. But to Nina’s adult daughter, Ash, Nick seems too slick, too polished, too good to be true. When Ash begins digging into his past, she finds a trail of unsettling coincidences.

Martha lives in a neighboring town with her infant daughter and devoted husband Alistair. But lately, Alistair has been traveling more and more frequently for work, disappearing for days at a time, and Martha can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right.

Nina, Martha, and Ash have no idea they are on a collision course with a shocking truth. And all three are about to wish they had heeded the same warning: Don’t let him in.

Editorial Review

A puzzle worth solving...
Lisa Jewell’s Don’t Let Him In ensnared me from the beginning. From the character interactions that made me want to pull out my hair in frustration to the genuine a-ha moments when things began to click, I was hooked. Following recent widow Nina, mourning daughter Ash, and neglected wife and mom Martha, Don’t Let Him In explores the complexities of these women's relationship with a man that turns out very wrong. Not only do they learn they shouldn't have let him in, it might be too late to avoid what may come crashing down on them. I had almost visceral reactions to the lies told, stories believed, actions ignored. And to put a cherry on top of these well-developed characters, Don't Let Him In is a multi-cast listen performed by top-notch talents like Richard Armitage, Joanne Froggatt, Tamaryn Payne, Gemma Whelan, Louise Brealey, and Patience Tomlinson. —Nicole R., Audible Editor

The book was Long and repeated the same actions, but with different women. It became very old after a while. There was no aha moment and far too many characters. At times it was hard to follow. The narrators were extremely good.

Monotonous

Just a pointless story with no real shocks or twists. No mystery and not enough pace/thrill!

I thought this was an awful book and I like Lisa Jewell.

I could not stop listening and am still thinking about it days later.

The plot is complex, it is not a mindless quick read, the timeline requires thought and the mystery is a puzzle for the listener to slowly piece together.

The characters are vivid, layered, and so well drawn. Every detail of each character is intentionally meant to develop them in a way that furthers the plot. It was atmospheric being stuck in the mind of a sociopath for 12 hours, yet I could not stop reading in amazement of all the ways this psycho justified and rationalized his extreme narcissistic behaviors.

All characters have questionable morals and motives on some level, so there is no shortage of suspects for the villain(s), which added to the complexity of the mystery. The main character Ash was likeable, and I rooted for her to somehow bring the villain to justice.

The setting, obviously familiar to Jewell, is an accurate and fascinating description of towns along the English Channel with a view of France in the distance, SoHo in central London, and in Westminster.

Using multiple narrators made this story come to life, and first person writing for the villain created in-depth character development for him.

This is not a “feel good” kind of read. There is constant tension and suspense as the mystery is slowly unveiled. With that said, all the loose ends are tied and while I knew the situation would not result in a “happy ending” it was satisfying right down to the last sentence.

Typical of Lisa Jewell, this is fascinating story.

The narrators did an amazing job, really brought the story to life. The story line was frustrating at times but at the end tied up really nicely.
