Publisher's summary

It’s vampire politics as usual around the town of Bon Temps, but never before have they hit so close to Sookie’s heart….

Growing up with telepathic abilities, Sookie Stackhouse realized early on there were things she'd rather not know. And now that she's an adult, she also realizes that some things that she knows about, she'd rather not see—like Eric Northman feeding off another woman. A younger one.

There's a thing or two she'd like to say about that, but she has to keep quiet—Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric's front yard—especially the body of the woman whose blood he just drank.

Now, it's up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl's fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who's set out to make Sookie's world come crashing down.

Great Book

What did you love best about Deadlocked?

Charlaine Harris started to wrap up some of the lose ends from previous books. She did a great job as always.

Can't get enough Sookie.

I LOVE the Sookie books.
This series of books is one of my all time favorites and I'm truly sad only one book remains to come.
Charlaine has created a fun fast paced interesting world that Sookie lives in. so much so that I just can't get into the TV "adaptation" that loosely follows this series. Charlaines Sookie world rocks the way she penned it. You won't see me giving many 5 stars and I do with this group of books. Please start with the first book and follow them in order. I also like the narrator Joanna Parker for this series. Sometimes a narrator fits like Jim Dale did for the Potter books and so Joanna does here.

But slow but important

The plot is important but it felt like it dragged compared to the other books.

I want that 9 hours back....

So disappointing. I’ve started listening to these books in about October last year, and have now listened to all of them several times. I was so looking forward to this one, but what a letdown! Nothing happened - it felt shallow and as though it was actually a teaser for the real story. Lots of things were alluded to, but none of them actually happened.

It was almost as though Charlaine made a few vague story plot ideas and then got someone else to write it; ‘Yeah, Tara’s babies need to come; include some stuff about Eric and Bill; hey maybe Quinn should pop up again; and don’t forget to remind them about Hunter, that lawyer, Jason, Dawn and the famous chocolate cake; the fae and anyone else we’ve forgotten. Just check the character list…’

As for narration; I love Johanna Parker, and cannot imagine Sookie any other way, but it really, really annoyed me when she started trying to have Bill say 'Sookie' in the way he does on True Blood. We get that it's becoming a bit of a catch-phrase, but I would guess that most fans of the books are like me - the TV series is very separate from the books. Once you get into it, they are hardly the same story, so it's just a cheap sell out to try and emulate the actor's voice (having said that, I suspect that it was under direction from someone else, not Johanna's idea). She didn’t maintain it anyway, so that in itself was distracting.

Right, what else can I listen to on Audible? Please give me some ideas!!

You've read it all before

Dear Ms. Harris:
Please end the Sookie Stackhouse series quickly and peacefully. Each book is dragging on with little additional story and much recap of the previous books. I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the series, and since that time each book has gotten progressively worse. The latest 10-ish hours I spent listening to this book could have been done in one hour or less with a simple summary, because really, not that much happened in the latest installment.

Respectfully,
A Reader

To those of you inclined to read/listen to this book: only a few days pass in the story of "Deadlocked" and there are werewolves, vampires, fairies and other "sups." People die. Sookie is surprised several times. Eric wants to have sex with Sookie. Bill pines for Sookie. Sookie may have a crush on Sam. Yup, that about covers it. You've now just saved time and money on this book.

THis book was ok. The beef and plot were misssing.

What did you like best about Deadlocked? What did you like least?

A few loose end were ties up. Nothing new was learned in this book.No love interest. Nothing really happens....a lot of fluff not real beef.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was a dud. More action then most of the book but still not a great ending

Would you be willing to try another one of Johanna Parker’s performances?

I lost interest in the end to this series

Could you see Deadlocked being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

no

Any additional comments?

Very Disappointing/ Narrator does good job

The story didn't really have anything special about it and the ending was horrible. I can't stand the direction the series has taken. I had heard/read that it wasn't that good but I was committed to the series and was hoping it would at least be informative. I am keeping my fingers crossed the next book will turn things back around but I am not getting my hopes up. On the bright side I do like the narrator. She does a good job in all of the books I have heard her do.

Boring... Where was Eric???

Would you ever listen to anything by Charlaine Harris again?

Of course, I'll read her next book- but this was a major disappointment for me.

Any additional comments?

There was no real plot, and hardly any mentioning of Eric. This book was a huge disappointment and overall- really boring. The narration was excellent, as always. I kept hoping that the book would start "getting good" but it just never did.

Big - BIG Disappointment.

I couldn't wait to hear this new installment from Charlaine Harris. I was so disappointed with this book.

Not only does it take until the last 5 chapters to get around to anything worth reading, Eric is only in the book for all of 5 minutes. The majority of the book is fluff and over descriptive. Most of the story takes place in Sookie's mind, ie. her thoughts and feelings about how miserable she is, but she never actually DOES anything about it. The rest of the main characters were basically nonexistent. I couldn't believe it when the book ended and there were still so many loose ends. You basically could skip all but the last 5 chapters and still keep up with the next book.

I have loved all her books, but this was by far my least favorite. I felt very unsatisfied at the end and not excited in the least for the next book.

Side note: The narrator was, as always, fabulous.
