Final Showdown (and a Smidge of Romance)

The final showdown between Dakota and the The Shepherds reaches its climax in ‘Darkest Night’. Can Dakota and crew succeed in finding and retrieving Eden? Will The Shepherds enact their final vengeance on America? How does the country begin to heal after the nuclear disaster?

Hold onto your hats if you thought the previous books were action-packed, this book will make the previous ones look like kiddie-rides in comparison to the giant roller-coaster ride this one delivers. Beginning-to-end tension-building suspense and action are in abundance in this superb finale of the ‘Nuclear Dawn’ series.

Even with lots of bullets, and other ordnance, flying and well-thought-out hand-to-hand fighting, I must mention the terrific characterizations, especially Dakota and Logan. These two characters go through being adversaries, allies, friends to finally something more. It’s a very long slow-burn to romance, but the pay-off of a blink-and-you-miss-it “I love you.” make these books all the more wonderful. At the end, while left fairly open-ended, there is a sense that Dakota, Logan and all the rest are going to heal and move on from this tragedy.

Stacey Glemboski, one of my top three favorite ‘voice of the apocalypse’ narrators, provides listeners with a perfect performance. She has the outstanding ability, through her voice-acting, to put the listener right into the middle of this superb saga.

This audiobook was given to me by the author as a free review copy. I am now submitting a voluntary opinion now that I’ve listened to it.

Highly recommended.

Awesome conclusion to the series

This has been a great series and this conclusion just couldn't get better! After 13 cities in the US are decimated by nuclear bombs, survivors are just trying to get their lives back to normal. Unfortunately, for some survivors, normal isn't such a good thing.

Dakota Sloane and her younger sister, Eden, have escaped from a fanatical religious cult and had been living in Miami when the bombs hit. Dakota will risk everything to keep Eden safe. However, Maddox Cage and the Shepherds are equally determined to bring Eden back to the Compound and get revenge on Dakota.

Dakota and her friends, Logan, Julio, Ezra, Park and Shay, along with newfound allies in the US military, discover that the Shepherds are even worse than Dakota imagined. Were the attacks truly instigated by Iran or is something more nefarious lurking in the Everglades?

Kyla Stone has created a great cast of characters and in this book, the reader finally learns the whole truth about The Prophet and his plans. This book is full of emotion as characters are tested both physically and emotionally. The author manages to bring all of the loose ends together in this final installment in a satisfying and believable manner and I will admit to shedding a few tears along the way.

The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, does a great job and her performance added a lot to my listening enjoyment. The listener can really feel the emotions of the characters in her performance.

If you enjoy the post-apocalyptic genre, you won't be disappointed with this series. There is enough action to satisfy even the most diehard thrill seekers, while those looking for a more character driven story will also enjoy it. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author and chose to review it.

Excitement to the end!

Kayla Stone keeps us on edge through this exciting conclusion to the Nuclear Dawn series. Excitement, emotion and fear fuel this story. Who will survive? Who will be killed? Who will be injured and who will prevail?
Our favorite characters and the ones we love to hate battle each other to the end.

Best of all are some surprises that will bring a tear or two.
I would like to follow these characters in the lives they rebuild after this man-made tragedy. It was concluded well and I love stories that I know having an ending, but maybe we can have more? I can't get enough of the stories and characters created by Kyla Stone.

Action packed!

Darkest Night the fifth book in the Nuclear Dawn series doesn’t disappoint when it comes to action and intrigue. Dakota and her remaining compadres take on the Prophet and his army. To avoid providing any spoilers I won’t share details other than to say not all goes how everyone hopes. While it is nice to finish the series, to bid adieu to these characters after investing so much time following them on their adventures is bittersweet. Once again Stacy Glemboski does an excellent job of bringing the story to life with her narration.

Wow

I did not see the ending to this series coming, and I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to read anything else that Stone writes, because after this series she's one of my favorite authors. This book is so good, this series is so good. I can't say it enough, this series is awesome.

Fantastic addition to the Series

this is my favorite book in the series. Non stop action from start to finish with Kyla tying together some loose threads in the end.
