Publisher's summary

California is a state shaped by its explosive past.In recent years, the state's been flooded and then ripped apart by tremors.

Now, the Earth's crust is heaving like the chest of a gasping beast. The ground has grown restless around Mammoth Mountain as the world waits. Will the fire-breathing beast relieve the pressure?

A stand-alone disaster thriller from international best-selling author, Bobby Akart, one of America's favorite storytellers, who delivers up-all-night thrillers to listeners in 245 countries and territories worldwide.

California had experienced back-to-back catastrophic events. First, an ARkStorm, a thousand-year flood event, led to another catastrophic event, a series of earthquakes causing the rupture of the famous San Andreas fault.

USGS geophysicist, Mac Atwood, and volcanologist, Taylor Reed, survived being swallowed by the Earth during the earthquake swarm. They returned to the ordinarily peaceful and serene environs surrounding Mammoth Mountain and the Long Valley Caldera. When a series of seemingly minor earthquakes take place in the Sierra Nevadas, Mac the seismic detective, expresses his concern to Taylor. Her skills as a volcanologist will be tested as it appears the Long Valley Caldera, the second largest supervolcano in the U.S. behind Yellowstone, is awakening.

Mac and Taylor lived through the devastation wrought by the earthquakes at San Andreas. They proved earthquakes have the ability to transfer between faults. They believed the complicated geology beneath California had changed after the ARkStorm. Now, they believe the geologic formations surrounding Mammoth Mountain and the Long Valley Caldera have been fundamentally changed. For the worst.

The ARkStorm had been dubbed the Other Big One and a San Andreas earthquake was known as the Big One. The eruption of the Long Valley Caldera would be more than a flood or knocked down buildings. It could result in the end of the world as we know it.

Main characters

Loved the main characters. Narrator was ok but used a clipped flow which didn’t seem to match the flow of the story.

Mammoth

I have read MANY of Akart's books - he is incredible -- suspenseful - seems well researched - and very entertaining. Keep writing...

Fantastic!

I loved this book. I am sad, as I always am, to say goodbye to some of my favorite characters. You knows a book is really good and the characters are like family, when you think about them after you have listened to the last word of the book or read the last page.
Bobby Akart weaves word pictures that make you feel as though you are right there in the story.
Thank God he uses his wonderful gift of writing, so we can take a break from life and jump into the most riveting stories.

More Romance Less Disaster 2

This is book 3 in the disaster thriller trilogy of ArkStorm, Fractured and now Mammoth. Mammoth picks up where Fractured left off and features characters from the first two books. Scientists Mac Attwood and Taylor Reed are back along with the couple from the first book and fire chief Finn and his dog. The volcano erupts in this book, but far too much time is spent with Mac and Taylor and their romance and awful jokes. There are descriptions of the disaster unfolds, but so much time is spent with the couples it takes away the focus of the book for me. The first remains my favorite- a thrilling look at a disaster that was a page turner. This book was just ok for me and the cheesy wedding was ridiculous. I need a Preston and Child book to recover. Narration was by the same fellow who did the last book, whose voice is so soft what he's reading doesn't really stand out.

This book does not disappoint!!

As always I absolutely loved this book. Bobby Akart is the best in this genre, in my humble opinion. He's yet to write a book that I haven't enjoyed. With that in mind, I would definitely recommend this to folks, even if they haven't read this genre before. He has a way of writing that relates to so many folks. His characters are always smart, witty and thought provoking. I love his mix of modern day events and fiction. Narration was top notch!

Informative

This was so informative. Being from the south with all its weather I have given little thoughts to volcanos and earthquakes. But this book was fascinating and I loved the characters. I’m always happy when it also happens to have man’s best friend in it. I spent all day listening to the story because it’s too hard to find a stopping point. Keep it up Bobby Akart!

Explosive

Absolutely love this story. We follow some.of the same characters from Ark Storm and Fractured as they find themselves in yet another dire situation. The author keeps you on your toes with twists and turns and plenty of action. I recommend this book. It is awesome.
