Publisher's summary

Strength in numbers can make the difference between life and death - but only the right numbers.

Megan Wolford has finally found herself a family she and her young daughter can rely on in terrifying times. Their group is small, but they trust each other with their lives - and day by day, Wyatt is showing her how to love again. With a long winter looming, they'll have to hunker down in the lodge to survive, but there are deadlier threats to their safety than harsh conditions.

When a neighboring group is struck by ruthless raiders led by the fearsome Connor McDaniels, they must form an uneasy alliance with Megan's new family. She doesn't take kindly to newcomers, but they will need every pair of hands they can get to fight off the raiders. After McDaniels turns his sights on Megan's people, she plans an assault that will put an end to the threat he poses once and for all - she'll need every person she can get at her side. But she has to learn to trust them first.

The Lodge is getting fuller

Book 3 at the lodge.
Megan is still adjusting to life after the EMP. She is not really trusting of anyone. I mean she has reason, but there is a time when she just needs to chill out. ( why I gave it 4 stars)
the story line is still good, and there is action, battle, war and sadly death of a loved one.
They pick up some new friends along the way as well.
It seemed to wrap up nicely, and I thought this was the last book, but I just looked and there are a few more books to this story.

Andrew Tell did a good job on this book, I would totally listen to him again.

A series that gets better and better

This is a post apocolyptic series based one the inhabitants of several communities. One group are the evil ones and prey upon other groups for their needs.

The second group are idealists that don't see anything bad happening to them and believe hiding and avoidance will keep evil at bay

The final group are realists. Good people that make no pretense that the world has changed for a long time

How will it play out ? Saccate the predators with a share of what they have or confrontation?

Thats the basics of the book and the series.

The narration is good and fits the characters which there are many. He does a good job of doing slightly different voices which is not easy to do.

The characters are not overly complex. They want to all survive
I find the female characters are strong and atypical of many characterizations in the genre.

If you like apocalyptical fiction, with a strong family / Group dynamics as well as strong females I believe you will like the series. Its a survival story and not full of excessive gratuitous violence

I was given this book to review by the author. My thoughts and opinions are honest and reflect my thoughts , opinions based on being a fan of the Genre

Great Third Installment in this Series

Graces Hamiltions enjoyable EMP Lodges Series continues with the Third book Dark Defiance. The story continues with Megan fully integrated into the lodge learning to love again from Wyatt but with winter coming they need more food and The one community they trade with is raided by Connor McDaniels. Placing everyone in danger again. My only complaint is with Megan. Her constant paranoia and mistrust of everyone each book does get old. Understandable but tiring. I do highly recommend this book and this series.

The narration is provided by Andrew Tell. Mr. Tell does another great job with this fun cast of characters.

A series that improves with each book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, I have to admit, this series has definitely gotten better as it progresses. Megan is MUCH less annoying in this book than she was in the last one. She's still overly mistrustful of everyone around her, but she bitches and moans a WHOLE lot less. The narrator did a good job too, so this is worth giving a listen.

3rd in Series

This is 3rd in good series and suggest read or listen to the first 2 books, this is about survival after solar flare/EMP. It is a different Dystopian as basically told by gutsy woman named Megan (main character). It has good character development and good prepping (love the dog). My one complaint was the ending as you need to read or listen to next book (which I want to) as ends by saying chapter 31. Recommend to anyone who enjoys Dystopian/ Post-Apocalyptic books. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU!

I have really enjoyed this series so far. The characters are relatable and impart some great survival information. Looking forward to seeing where the future takes this family.

Now, We Take It To Them!

4.5 out of 5 stars

Sometimes I can write a synopsis to explain the story and sometimes I suck at it. This is one of those times, but here is one written by the author: “When a neighboring group is struck by ruthless raiders led by the fearsome Connor McDaniels, they must form an uneasy alliance with Megan’s new family. She doesn’t take kindly to newcomers, but they will need every pair of hands they can get to fight off the raiders. After McDaniels turns his sights on Megan’s people, she plans an assault that will put an end to the threat he poses once and for all—she’ll need every person she can get at her side. But first, she has to learn to trust them.”

This one definitely had a lot more action than the other books. It was much less about prepping and much more about taking out the strongest oppositional force. I liked that, it felt like it breathed some new life into this series and it definitely shook a lot of things up.

We have the same cast of characters who are all trying to figure out how to live with this “new normal” life that is stripped of most of what they would have called essentials just months ago. Tempers will flare and the work still needs to be done every day.

I can’t talk much about the last third of the story since it involves some major plot points, but know that you are in for some crazy changes. Also, as I said above, I liked those changes and it felt like it was adding a lot of different depth to the story.

All of the choices that the Lodge made, seemed appropriate. Especially with the group of people there and the different personalities that they all had. Sadly, once again talking about it here would spoil the story — so I can’t!

The narration provided by Andrew Tell has really been a shining star of this series. It allows for the plot to continue but each person feels a little more real.

I was voluntarily provided with a copy of this audiobook. It has not affected my review in any way.

good book

The book was good and the narrarator did a great job. it just bothers me that a "navy seal" wasn't all that good with strategizing and fighting. I would have thought he would have been awsome but wasn't. So disappointment. other than that I think the book was a good book and I'll listen to the next one that comes out.
