Publisher's summary

The Leonides are one big happy family living in a sprawling, ramshackle mansion. That is until the head of the household, Aristide, is murdered with a fatal barbiturate injection.

Suspicion naturally falls on the old man's young widow, 50 years his junior. But the murderer has reckoned without the tenacity of Charles Hayward, fiancé of the late millionaire's granddaughter.

Great who-dunit story.

A little slow in the beginning but it picks up & is a great mystery.

A wonderful murder mystery with a kookie cast of characters. I found it quite engaging and a quick and easy listen. Totally held my interest!

Excellent for anyone interested in psychology

Agatha Christie’s genius has always lain in her singular understanding of human nature, and this is a prime example. This book is less about situational facts and more about emotions and motives. I suspected quite literally everyone, so I can’t say it was a SURPRISE at the end—but up until the moment of the reveal, it really could’ve been anyone. I really liked the choice of Charles Hayward as a narrator! Hugh Fraser is, as always, second to none.

Great twisted...dare I say, Crooked book

I really loved it. Hugh Fraser is a great narrator. Although I cheated and read who the killer was, it was still very interesting to see how it played out. I'm an Agatha fan for life!

A who “dun it” to the end

The queen of mystery does it again!

Such a easy read! It flows well and isn’t wordy or too much detail. Great book, highly recommend and Hugh Fraser is the best narrator ❤️ love him

Great Mystery

A very well done "who-done-it?" story. Nothing is hidden from the reader as the book moves towards is startling finish.

Classic mystery; unsatisfactory motive

This is one the better Agatha Christie mysteries in terms of plotting and characters (though the principal romance is wooden and a little inhuman), and it is convincingly performed. What leaves one short is the motivation of the perpetrator, but its want of substance is redeemed by a noble sacrifice.
