Story
Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with change is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

Following the instructions on his vision-impairing screens, he "slotted" his Xatherite and changed his fate: He gained the ability to cast spells. Gregory and his wives fought honorably and hard to advance to the finals, where their last fight was against the Eternal Flame. With their rigorous training and communication, they managed to defeat the arrogant clan, letting them stand alongside their novice friends as champions. The excitement of being the champions wasn’t the happiest part of their year, though. That came after the tournament, when all five of their friends—Nessa, Daciana, Victoria, Clover, and Ling—joined Aether’s Guard.

Oh yeah, the world is also full of monsters, and I'm the only human left. It turns out a godlike System evacuated humanity but decided to leave the vegetable in the bed. I could crawl into a corner and wait to get eaten by a kobold, but after years of being asleep, I have a new appreciation for feeling alive. I'll have to find the tenacity to survive, the courage to fight, and the strength to face some dark truths about myself.

Not really sure how to feel about this one.
The story is.. Lame. Sure the premise is interesting. A therapy using a game world to kick addiction while Nanites or whatever repair your body.
Inside the game was.. Bland. It was made for a handful of people so it feels more like a co-op game instead of world were supposed to care about.
The ending inside the game was lackluster. Plus the romance was.. Off, somehow. Didn't come off as genuine to me. I never felt it, only heard about it.
The ending 'outside' the game was by far the most interesting thing about this book. Really, it made this book feel more like a pre-qual. I suspected some type of genetic manipulation based off the title. Somehow tied to the levels he got in game.
It turned out far more interesting than I was expecting. Honestly that ending is why this is 4 starts and not 3 or even 2. It took me by surprise, which is rare since this book is in the 800 range for me.

Fantastic
This is a new author for me. I do enjoy Mr. Gililand's narration and here he did a phenomenal job. Each character had a unique voice, each impactful part of the story resonated. As for the story, it flowed smoothly with great pacing. A real treat and worth the credit.

good listen
ok let's start by saying it was a pretty good book. as to some improvements if you could of made the book 2 hours longer then it would not of felt rushed. I feel that the advancement speed was to quick and that by just making the book sprawl out more that it would of made a huge difference. so long story short more fluff

Good listen
I enjoyed this book . Twas a nice short book that sorta started and finished in one . Although the great twist at the end opened up the next book , I feel the bulk of the story was completed .
Thought the narrator did a good job .
I’m also not very good at writing reviews .

If only these pods existed!
Nice twist on the standard LirRPG, rather than talk about the story and end up spoiling it - it’s worthy of a purchase and a listen.
My only critique is like all audible be it a male narrator or a female, when they do the other genders voices it does work. But the narrator is clear, no broad accent, will have to look out for his other works.
