Not really sure how to feel about this one.
The story is.. Lame. Sure the premise is interesting. A therapy using a game world to kick addiction while Nanites or whatever repair your body.
Inside the game was.. Bland. It was made for a handful of people so it feels more like a co-op game instead of world were supposed to care about.
The ending inside the game was lackluster. Plus the romance was.. Off, somehow. Didn't come off as genuine to me. I never felt it, only heard about it.
The ending 'outside' the game was by far the most interesting thing about this book. Really, it made this book feel more like a pre-qual. I suspected some type of genetic manipulation based off the title. Somehow tied to the levels he got in game.
It turned out far more interesting than I was expecting. Honestly that ending is why this is 4 starts and not 3 or even 2. It took me by surprise, which is rare since this book is in the 800 range for me.

Absolutely Fantastic!!!
Great story and narration!
Shaun's life sucks, but his world is about to change as he has just been invited to participate in a very secret virtual reality treatment plan. Finding himself trapped in a fantasy world for one year, he quickly gets captured by orks attacking a city. Now he must do everything he can to level up while avoiding the stew pot. Escape is his only option!
Christian does a wonderful job with the narration and really brings the characters to life!

Ready for the next!
*Full disclosure, I was given a code for an honest review.*
I really enjoyed this story. The pacing was really tight & didn’t waste time with unnecessary things. The story had a well thought out structure & that ending was a really good twist that I didn’t see coming & left me wanting more. The characters were good too & given their backgrounds I can understand why they acted the way they did, though I would’ve liked to see the psychological side of being a captive & also being the last surviving member of your clan explored for the two MCs a bit more, even though it was in a game world.
I only had two issues that are more personal opinion than anything else & those are some (but not all) of the dialogue felt weak or stilted to me & the final fight scene didn’t really click with me, for a final fight in the book it didn’t seem like there was enough at stake.
Overall though I definitely enjoyed it & the narrator did a great job. I’m excited for the next book in the series!

If only these pods existed!
Nice twist on the standard LirRPG, rather than talk about the story and end up spoiling it - it’s worthy of a purchase and a listen.
My only critique is like all audible be it a male narrator or a female, when they do the other genders voices it does work. But the narrator is clear, no broad accent, will have to look out for his other works.
