Publisher's summary

David Mitchell and Robert Webb tackle various subject matters in a 'How to Cope with...', a guide talking you through every day scenarios and situations. The subject matters discussed are How to Cope with... Being Normal; Pubs; Being Dumped, Parts 1 and 2; Coffee; Malmaison Hotels; Nudists; The Smoking Ban; Actors; Servants; and Getting Older.

This recording doesn't need to remind us just how great Mitchell and Webb are as a comedy duo, and will by no means need to even attempt at getting the listener's attention once the play button is pressed, but will simply show us once more everything we know and love about Mitchell and Webb and why their quirky hilarity and foibles work so well together.

For example: How to cope with Actors. Try "not be put off by their luvvie-ness" and "do not assume that all actors are all thick...Stephen Fry is an actor and also a world class boffin. David Mitchell's GCSE results are very impressive."

Dazzlingly Funny!

Another first-rate outting for comedy team Mitchell and Webb! I have yet to be disappointed by the material from this duo. David Mitchell's diatribe on Malmaison hotels had me laughing out loud on the subway. Be sure to try this one, as well as anything else--audio or video--from M&W. You will have an hour's worth of laughs from "How to Cope..." Enjoy!

I wish there were more!

Mitchell and Webb alternate stories in this hour-long book about how to cope with a variety of issues. I would listen to seven more hours of this and hope they write another book like this. I'm currently listening to Mitchell's "Backstory" and recommend it as well!

P.S. You don't have to be a fan of Mitchell or Webb to enjoy this book. It stands on its own two feet.

Hillarious!

That was a great laugh, especially the chapters on coffee and being dumped. One or two jokes don't translate too well if you're not English (I didn't really get the Mal Maison hotel bit) but overall it's great.

Harsher than the Mitchell & Webb skits

I found this a bit more sarcastic / mean / harsh than the Mitchell & Webb skits.

Jokes on jokes

I’m still laughing at Mitchell’s fantasy of porridge being ruined as it’s like licking a warm wall and your taste buds stop working and send your brain white noise messages.

Fun (Little) Collection of Thoughts

A fun little collection of humorous rantings, each beginning with the premise “how to cope with…” Mitchell and Webb take it in turns to each give “advice” (i.e. comedic rants) to the reader on some everyday something they then overanalyze.

David Mitchell specifically sounds a lot like he does in his Guardian editorials and other books (such as ‘Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse’ or ‘Dishonesty is the Second-Best Policy’ which are both collections of his newspaper editorials and also available on Audible). So, if you're not a fan of those, you probably won't be interested in much of this. I enjoy Mitchell's editorials the vast majority of the time though.
And I always enjoy the writing (and narration) of Robert Webb. His autobiography, ‘How Not to Be a Boy,’ was definitely my favorite book of 2017.

That said, this audiobook is exceptionally short and there's really barely a theme or link between Mitchell and Webb's participation in it. M&W are obviously not writing *together* and aren't having any sort of conversation in it. It's disconnected. It's just a brief passage from Mitchell talking about one thing and then a separate passage from Webb talking about something else over and over. Seems a bit slapdash for a book.
But worth it for fans when free.

Oh I wish this were longer!

These two are brilliant and hilarious and I've been a long-time fan ever since I stumbled upon Peep Show about ten years ago, so I went into this knowing I would enjoy it. Still, I can never get enough of Mitchell and Webb and would have listened to ten more hours of this if I could have.
