Publisher's Summary

This is an updated version for all ages retold in wonderful storytelling fashion. John Bunyan was a simple maker and mender of pots and pans who received very little education. In spite of that, he penned the most successful allegory ever written. Embark on a perilous journey with Christian, the lead character, from the City of Destruction to the luminous safe haven of the Celestial City. The journey will encourage you to “set your hope fully on the grace to be given you” amidst the obstacles of life.

Not for the modern Christian reader

I understand what they were trying to do here, but the removal the quotations from the bible and references to God has soured this experience for me. Audible, please let the buyer know beforehand that important features have been omitted.

I bought this version because I thought it would have been in modern english, which would be of course far easier to understand than the original. I am very disappointed.

My suggestion to other serious listeners - do not buy this version because it isn't the Pilgrim's Progress at all. It is a compromise to please a world which is no longer interested in God or the things of God.

Thoroughly Enjoyable!

I've tried to read this a number of times, but this abridged version finally did the trick. I enjoyed the whole story. And the performance.

This Modern Version is terrible

To change all the Christian parts is offensive, not just to me...to God. It turns out to be a good book for children, but to take a classic book and take out the expressly Christian parts is to go against all that John Bunyan was trying to do. He was in prison for sharing the gospel of Christ!

Absolutely a must for everybody. A real blessing.

This is a Holy Spirit filled message, calling us to run the race with with the aim of winning. It warns us of the obstacles in our race in a simple but effective analogy.

wonderful book for all

Loved it. I finished it in two sittings. It portrays the struggles and joys of being a Christian. It shows how we should fellowship and support each other to strive to do the will of God. Also, how seeds planted in telling your family about Jesus will grow and develop until they all become Christians, too. And that though they may face troubles and make mistakes that as long as they look to the way of Jesus they will not be separated from God and will all be together again soon.

Wonderful Story full of life lessons

My 10 year old daughter and I listened to this on a road trip. I thought that she would not understand the story or older English but in fact she relished every chapter. Loved the journey.

The Best pilgrims progress audio version

I listened to seven or eight other versions before coming across this one. The narrator's voice and style are perfect for this classic.

still one of the very best

I've listened to this book a few times, each time when I've sensed I'm further from God than I'd like. every tone it refreshes me and I marvel at the genius of John Bunyan and the simplicity of his message.
