When paramedics find a malnourished six-year-old boy near a burning car that holds a dead woman, they wonder who he is - and why he won't speak. From the New York Times best-selling author of The Mountain Between Us comes a story of self-discovery, healing, and hope.

On a stifling summer day, an old Chevy Impala ignored the warning signals and was annihilated by the oncoming train. What no one realized until much later was that the driver had paused just before entering the tracks and kicked a small boy out of the car. A small boy with broken glasses who is clutching a notebook with all his might...but who never speaks.

Chase Walker was one of the lucky ones. He was in foster care as a child, but he finally ended up with a family who loved him and cared for him. Now, as a journalist for the local paper, he’s moved on and put the past behind him. But when he’s assigned the story of this young boy, painful, haunting questions about his own childhood begin to rise to the surface.

And as Chase Walker discovers, learning the truth about who you are can be as elusive - and as magical - as chasing fireflies on a summer night.

Praise for Chasing Fireflies:

This is my third book by Charles Martin. I have loved all three. Honestly the Narrator I love too. I am a displaced Southern girl. His soft southern voice is like a warm blanket. The redemptive turns in this book really make me feel good too. There are some hard to know subjects but the end of the story helps. Life is like that sometimes have to take the bad and learn from it. Love this author so much .

Just so happened that this book is centered in the town of Brunswick, Georgia… I did not know this upon selecting yet and just so happens that I was born and raised in this town… There were a lot of wonderful things about this book and it stirred a lot of emotions and a lot of questions that need to be answered in the end… I sometimes find it difficult to understand certain things in certain storylines and this must have been one of those times… I do feel confused after finishing this book, But that does not mean that you may completely understand everything and so I would say to you to definitely give it a try because it is a good book with a great story and the narration is superb as always with this their writer… Charles Martin is extremely talented with his writing abilities and I will go now and select another book by this man… God bless to all

Good book though ending was a bit confusing for me

I had read this one when it was first published. I liked it so well I read it again. It didn’t disappoint either time.

I love Charles Martin’s books.

This is another deeply moving novel dealing with abandonment, foster children, abuse, the need for caring fathers and men of integrity in children's lives. it includes mystery, a long buried scandal and ultimate redemption. Martin's main character reflects the qualities of God the Father.

Wonderful characters, interesting story with believable twists. I cried several times at the sensitivities and moral responsibility of being a caregiver/parent. Touching story.

Listening to this story was a delight. The writing transports you into the story with the characters and you can see, smell and taste everything the characters do. I wish there were more people like Unc in the world. The world would be a better place.

Beautiful writing

Absolutely loved this story, couldn’t stop listening. Heartwarming story with vivid characters. At times I cried, got mad and yet felt the love Uncle Will had for hid family. Narrator was excellent.
