Publisher's summary

Third generation Texas Ranger Tyler Steele is the last of a dying breed - a modern-day cowboy hero living in a world that doesn't quite understand his powerful sense of right and wrong and instinct to defend those who can't defend themselves.

Despite his strong moral compass, Ty has trouble seeing his greatest weakness. His hard outer shell, the one essential to his work, made him incapable of forging the emotional connection his wife, Andie, so desperately needed.

Now retired, raising their son, Brodie, on his own, and at risk of losing his ranch, Ty does not know how to rebuild from the rubble of his life. The answer comes in the form of Samantha and her daughter, Hope, on the run from a seemingly inescapable situation. They are in danger, desperate, and alone. Though they are strangers, Ty knows he can help - protecting the innocent is what he does best. As his relationship with Sam and Hope unfolds, Ty realizes he must confront his true weaknesses if he wants to become the man he needs to be.

A mans story, a love story?

Everything that is good and right and the way it should be. This is a story written by a man that understands the mans code, metrosexuals might be confused by the ethic in this tome, or might be, probably be, enlightened by it. As men we often are told by women to "read this and you will understand me" we read it. Well as a man to a woman, I would say, "read this and you will understand me" and leave it at that. This is a well written story, by a man, that also is able to write about the feelings that make a man the way we often are, when a man is the right kind of stuff. The action is good, there is tension and suspense and there is a love story. A mans perspective kind of love story. I really liked this book, I did not know it would be what it was but am very glad I listened to it. A really good find one I would highly recommend.

Love Charles Martin stories!!!!!

I can't say enough about this story! Charles Martin has done it again!!!!! Another amazing story! I laughed, I cried, I felt like I was there..... I'll never look at a car on the side of the road w/out wondering "what is their story"? How could they change my life?

Charles Martin does his homework and can write a story as if he was living it personally. He knows all the history and background of his stories inside and out! A+++++ I can't wait for the next one!!!

A Good Texas Ranger Story

If you like John Wayne movies, you will love this story. It has a wonderful unique character who tells much of the story from her point of view and in her vernacular. It's a refreshing change when the story telling is handed off to her, and she proceeds to speak to you as she writes in her diary. These folks face more than their fair share of challenges, and how they deal with these provides you the reader with a pretty clear view of their differences in values and character. One of the more likable listening choices I've made, and I trust you will agree. Cheers, Ken

Outstanding! Listen, smile, laugh, cry, and learn.

Would you consider the audio edition of Thunder and Rain to be better than the print version?

Never read the printed version. It just couldn't be as good as the audio!

What did you like best about this story?

The lesson. We run out of hope at times. This book is a reminder of hope. Living is the hard part. Gather the courage to live and the hope of tomorrow. What a great writer! I need more of his books to read and remind me.

Which character – as performed by Daniel May and Luci Christian Bell – was your favorite?

All of the characters were performed greatly. The mix of Daniel May and Luci Christian Bell made the story. I so enjoyed hearing Hope as a little girl then as an adult. But, it took both Mr. May and Ms. Bell to put the story on line. Greatly done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely, I did listen almost in one sitting. Even fell asleep listening.

Any additional comments?

This is a book I really needed to listen to and plan to listen to more of Charles Martin.

Powerful!

This is the classic struggle between good and evil and includes a John Wayne type character who, I believe, still exists in some places.

BE FOREWARNED

If you buy this thinking it is a crime/detective novel, you may be disappointed. Whereas almost all modern novels of that type have some sort of romantic back-story, this one is primarily a romance novel with a crime/detective subplot. It is well-written and very well narrated, but I wish I had had a clearer idea of its true genre before buying it.

Colorfully written and performed

What made the experience of listening to Thunder and Rain the most enjoyable?

The performers were excellent in making clear which character was speaking. The emotions were evident and carried you with them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Thunder and Rain?

When cowboy asked Andy to come home.

Which scene was your favorite?

As above.

If you could take any character from Thunder and Rain out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Hope, because she is aptly named.

Any additional comments?

Just like all of Charles Martin's books, you walk away feeling better about the world and God's grace. You are also well entertained during the process. I have only listened to his books but I just love them. Can't wait for the next one.

Not up to his usual quality.

I WAS a fan of Charles Martin but this book was a big disappointment. He has sacrificed his usual good writing with a lot of crude dialogue about body functions and salacious situations with Tyler, the Texas Ranger and "Sam" the woman he rescues. Too much detail about learning to shoot and "manhood" I guess this is a guys book.
I absolutely HATED the little girls "letters to God" her voice was cloying and the content stupid and unbelievable for a 10 year old who had gone through trauma.
The male narrator was the only good part of the book. Skip this one!

Great story!

Would you listen to Thunder and Rain again? Why?

I would listen to this book again. Being from Texas, I found the main character noble and true to many cowboys I have known.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot kept me going. There were parts that kept you on the edge of your seat. There were a few areas where I felt the story moved a little slow. These places didn't last long.

What does Daniel May and Luci Christian Bell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I really liked the narrating and going from Cowboy to the little girl, Hope.

Who was the most memorable character of Thunder and Rain and why?

Cowboy and Hope

Any additional comments?

A great feel good book. Easy listening.
