Publisher's Summary

I can't escape my past. West wants to be my future.

When West, a former SEAL and my online gaming buddy, begged me to meet him IRL (in real life), one word, one touch, one look sent me fleeing like a coward. Back to my keyboard, online gaming, and the deadline that could make or break my whole programming career. Back where I'm safe.

Problem is, West followed.

Forced back into a world I'd rather forget, Cam's the one thing I'm afraid to lose.

My civilian life looks great. On paper. But my business is tanking, and I can't sleep more than a few hours before I jolt awake. Screaming. Shaking. Alone. Out of options, I accept a mission I might not come back from. But when I need Cam most, fear sends her running.

If I survive, can I convince Cam love is worth the risk?

Excellent Story

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This story was very interesting and I didn't want to put it down. I learned so much about the feelings of our service people who have been injured in combat both physically and mentally. It really plays with their minds as well as their injured bodies. I also got a better understanding of software and programming. The story kept me on my toes and my interest until the very end. It was funny and sad throughout. Loved the story and the narrators. Great job, great team. Looking forward to more books by Patricia D. Eddy. LOVED IT!!!

Excellent and Exciting Romance

This book is incredible from start to finish. I absolutely love Cam and West's story. It's a well plotted and tense read, and I got super into it, yelling out my guesses as the plot progressed. I don't want to spoil anything because every moment with this book is fantastic. The author does a great job of setting the scenes, and we get to know Cam and West well. The dual narration is superb as well. I highly recommend this audiobook. This is a voluntary review of a copy gifted by the author.

Good story about wounded Vets

This series is based on retired, wounded veterans who are assimilating back into civilian life. This book introduces us to security software wiz, Cam, and her internet gaming love interest, West. Cam has erected walls so high around herself that she never lets anyone into her emotional bubble. She’s attracted to West but doesn’t believe that he will stick around. Meanwhile, her job and work relationships are beginning to implode. Can she let down her guard and ask for help before it’s too late?
Good story, good characters and HEAFN. Looking forward to the next book.

Breaking his code!

Stories that are brought into this technological age really intrigue me, and Patricia D Eddy grabbed me from the very start. People meet online all the time using video games, social media, and forums as avenues to find friends with common interests. Taking something as easy as online gaming and turning it into a realistic love story is what today is all about. Cam, a code writer for a security company, meets West, the owner of a gym while playing Halo online. When their relationship becomes flirtatious, they decide to meet. Both being ex-military, they are aware there are both visible and invisible scars. With secrets and pasts to work through, these two have their work cut out for them. The vet forum as well as Royce, Cam's boss also includes a very realistic side of the soldiers that come home with PTSD and survivor's guilt. I loved how Eddy has masterfully woven this story with such pragmatic characters. It is edgy, suspenseful and passionate, the best kind of book.

This is my first narration with both Kale Williams and Lisa Zimmerman, and I enjoyed them both. With a dual POV, they each had an easy listening pace, and distinguishable, believable voices. It is a pleasurable listen.

Breaking his code is fantastic!

I'm a big fan of Patricia Eddy and I love how she she writes about interabled couples that are as she puts it "beautiful broken". Books are written so there is no pity party for the characters and I love how the narration was done for this book.

Truly brings a favorite to life.

I often find it difficult to listen to audiobooks that I haven't already read on the page, mostly because I find it difficult to lose myself to someone else reading a story. While I've read Breaking His Code a myriad of times, listening to Lisa and Kale bring Cam and West (along with all of the other side characters) to life was truly an experience.

Their inflections and pacing carried the action of the story well, and I found it easy to ignore the world around me in favor of just getting lost in it. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a suspenseful plot, alluring characters and a ton of heat.

Terrific Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Heartfelt!

I enjoyed this book immensely, the story is well written and told, it drew me right in, grabbing my attention and holding it the entire time. The storylines and characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. Camilla “Cam” Delgado, former military, an explosives expert who was injured while on a mission in Afghanistan. She suffered permanent damage from those injuries, being a computer geek and great at coding she currently works on programing security systems for a company run by Royce, her former boss while serving. Other than her job Cam does not get out much, she does go online to unwind, she also visits VetNet where she meets out Veterans. She friended West, former Seal, owner of Krav Maga studio that is struggling financially a new fitness center opened up taking away some of his business, he has plans to expand but needs to obtain financial support to do so. He has taken a like to Cam and wants to meet her in person and take the relationship to another level. Cam has insecurities and battles her own inner demons but agrees to meet him. Their first meeting ends in disaster but he does not give up on her. I adored both these characters, perfectly imperfect, had real life problems and issues. I admired Cam’s strength and West for compromising, doing something he did not want to do to further his goals. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, a touch of angst, some mystery, twist and turns, thrilling suspense, heartfelt and emotional moments and some hot romance. Patricia D. Eddy, thank you for another great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Kale Williams and Lisa Zimmerman are fantastic narrators and voice artists. They do an awesome job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. They grasp their character’s persona, capture all their emotions and project them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

Great beginning to the AFK series

The first in the Away From Keyboard series, we meet Cam and West. Both are former military with their own PTSD ghost that they are fighting. Both have vulnerabilities that are relatable and it made finish this story in one day. That’s a trend for me with anything Patricia D Eddy writes. I’m a huge fan of the whole AFK series.

I was given a copy of the audiobook by the author for my honest review. It was wonderful to read and to listen to. Kale Williams and Lisa Zimmerman were new narrators for them. I enjoyed them both. Both are talented at switching their voices from male to female when they’re narrating their character’s POV.

I really liked this

I am no computer geek, person, genius or any other but the story was running on the edge of not to deep yet not to shallow. the steamy bits were written well and you get a really good idea of ptsd syndrome. well done Ms Eddy.
this is my first book I've listened to of yours and it won't be the last 😊😊😊😊
