Publisher's summary

"Cody Davis is gonna make a sinner out of me."

Yes, I know exactly who he is. The wounded soldier at the end of Willow Street. Intimidating. Devastatingly handsome. Muscular body chiseled from stone. Deep dark eyes that dare you to come near. Attitude for days. And I just became his caregiver.

Everyone warned me to stay away from him - including my father, the respected minister of our small town of Spruce. But clearly, I'm too stubborn to heed good advice, especially when Cody Davis is as frustratingly attractive - and persistent - as they come.

As the preacher's son, I have strict morals I must live by. But each day spent with that aggravating hunk makes me question them. My safe and fragile world is turning upside down, and I'm not sure I have the strength to stop it.

And even worse: I'm not sure I want to. Temptation this bad never looked so good. This soldier is gonna make a sinner out of me.

Contains mature themes.

Love the series!

So sweet. Cody is such a decent, nice man & severely misunderstood. Deserved to meet his match in patient Trey

First M/M romance for this straight girl

I used my audible credit and got “Born Again Sinner”, my first M/M romance novel. First off the book was amazing! It had me laughing, tearing up, and waiting on the edge of my seat. Made me think of some of my brothers by choice... the innocent one and the foul mouthed military man. I think that’s why I feel in love with the story, I could relate to both of the main characters! Secondly, the guys who recorded the audiobook are awesome! They aren’t just reading the book they bring the characters to life!

surly to sweet

I tried this book because so many reviews oohed & aahed over the sweet first love & they’re not wrong. I liked that two loners, one public, one private, were able to comfortably couple up and also draw more people into their lives. I was in a book funk & other new authors weren’t keeping me drawn in but this did. On that basis I recommend it.

I have some quibbles though:
Cody comes from an abusive father and starts out being physically aggressive toward Trey, including punching walls, and breaking things “near” someone is a bad sign. The aggression kind of magically went away. Maybe the one thought Cody had about not emulating his dad was enough to straighten him out? But for this reader, it leaves me worried about how he handles frustration. (The guns don’t help, but the way Trey handled that make me think he’s got that outlet covered.)

For every thing Trey fretted over, he never once thought about the power imbalance of a nurse/patient relationship. That was what I expected would be their stumbling block, but it wasn’t & wasn’t addressed at all. It made some sense because they hooked up pretty fast, so never really settled into that n/p dynamic, but I thought it was weird that it never came up.

This part is spoilerish, about Cody’s health:
It’s rather ableist. Much is made of how pretty Cody is. His war wounds, while severe did not affect his face & he kept his muscle bulk. Aside from motion limits, which he didn’t ever really accept, he didn’t have to fundamentally rethink his sense of self, except for not being in the Army. Then, spoiler, he gets surgery that means he can functionally recover from all his physical limitations. Sure, Trey falls for Cody when Cody is still injured, but in every scene where Cody should not push through the pain of his injuries, he does. And even when it does do actual damage, it gets fixed. He has a slow recovery, off page before the epilogue, where he apparently finally complies with therapy, but his HEA also includes “full” recovery. So if you’re looking for a “wounded vet learns to love his new, altered self while finding love” story, this is not that. It’s the primary reason I docked a star rating. Wanting to set the scene with a wounded vet, but making him picturesque, having him push through pain instead of finding accommodations, & winning full recovery is a fantasy some will enjoy but as someone looking for stories of loving a disabled person didn’t find it as satisfying as I would have had they had to adjust to a fundamental change that sticks around.
/end spoilers

Steam: Med-low. Mostly tender & exploratory new love. There’s M/M detail on page, but the reviewer who thought this was erotica was way off the mark. For most of the (few) scenes, I was more concerned about Cody aggravating his wounds instead of figuring out how to get busy without reinjuring himself. It was sweet how much they enjoyed each other.

Narration: I thought the dual narrators worked well. Trey’s Texas twang worked for me, but I am not an expert on regional accents.
Note: Trey is not voiced as effeminate. In the Audible sample, the high pitched voice talking to Cody is a female nurse, not Trey.

Funny Sexy Romp

This was a funny, sexy romp. The performances were incredible. My one draw back, a little to much religion, but none the less for it's inclusion.

Great Read

I will definitely say that this book was a great read. What I think is most valuable about the book is that the relationship seems organic not forced.

I think it's really important that we highlight that you can be attracted to someone, but that doesn't mean you'll end up in a relationship them. And I think for the two characters Cody and Trey this is extremely real.

I'm super interested and invested in the relationship because I feels like it seems more authentic the most love stories.

Without saying too much I hope you give this book a chance , you don't have to read the first to get into the second, but book 1 is also something cute to listen to if you have some time.
