Home is where you make it.

Beau Hopper is good at good-byes. A minor-league hockey player, he goes where the league tells him. Single and estranged from his family, Beau drifts without connections or commitments. He makes a living, not a life.

Former Marine Connor Casey's life revolves around his siblings. After Hurricane Harvey took their home and a car crash claimed their parents, Connor is determined to rebuild their house and their lives.

When Beau learns Connor might lose custody of his siblings if he can't finish the rebuild in time, he volunteers to help in exchange for a place to stay, and it isn't long before he finds himself in Connor's bed.

It takes more than passion and plywood to build a home, so when the league comes calling after Beau, Connor can't ask him to stay...but how can he ever let him go?

Contains mature themes.

Thus, by far, is one of my favorite romances ❤️
I've found my perfect romance formula.
MCs meet instantly and grow into a sweet romance. The meat of the story is their grow TOGETHER. There's only one or two short chapters of angst and thethen HEA with a nice size epilog.
Yeah, one dang good romance ❤️

Perfect Romance Formula

This was such a good story. It had everything you could want. I also sobbed at the departure of one of the characters. The kids were great too. One of the best I’ve listened to.

There was a lot I really liked here. There was a ton of on page interaction with all of the kids — really cute interactions, tense-but-necessary-for-growth interactions, one on one interactions, sibling fights and antics…really a whole range. Loved that.

I also like both MCs a lot. I thought they were good characters, had good character growth, and I liked their relationship.

Things I didn’t love:
- a very detailed PTSD scene involving a shotgun that brought the entire book down a whole star for me.
- no cw in the audiobook, which made the first point a surprise. I realize I could have come look at storygraph but I rarely expect it to be an issue (for me personally) when I’m reading light and fluffy contemporary romance
- several mentions of Harry Potter. It was punished in 2018, and I’ve lost track of when exactly that situation… became what it is, but it’s always jarring to hear HP mentioned in queer books and makes me question the author's allyship.
- 100% a personal issue that I knew going in, but I don’t love military backgrounds for MCs and the military part is definitely a significant part of the character and story. Conner left the marines within the last year, he actively talks about it, one of the kids is very interested in his time in the marines, and he thinks about the traumatic stuff he saw/did abroad. I set it aside and ignored it for my rating but did want to mention in case someone else is in a similar situation and debating picking this up.

Cute single dad romance
