Publisher's summary

One man. One tower. One year to escape before everyone dies.

Lucas was shocked when he awoke to find the world had ended. An alien AI called the System had taken over Earth and transformed his apartment building into a 100-floor dungeon tower of traps, monsters, and loot. Trapped at the top, Lucas and the other residents have just one year to reach the ground floor and escape before the tower self-destructs.

That’s his first problem.

The second is he slept through the System’s welcome orientation, so a Class was picked for him. Lucas is now a Blood Reaver. A brutal Class based on speed, ferocity, and striking from the shadows. He’s expected not to just defeat his enemies, but to slaughter them and bathe in their blood. Their blood is now his power.

Outraged at being invaded, Lucas vows to grow stronger and take back his world. He will not only survive but thrive as he carves a bloody path to freedom.

enjoyable

I enjoyed the book. I'm not to happy with the direction the book took at the end, but the plot was still solid. I can't place it, but it felt like something was lacking, which kept it away from being 5 stars.

good book, crap character

This book isn't horrible or irredeemable, but don't like the mc on a personal level.
1. Abandoned first person in party.
2.Panicky wuss
3. To stupid to inventory corpses, or ask party for blood.
4.Could use companion to pelican blood to him.
5. A bit slow on the uptake.
6. Cocky with no basis.
7. Traitorous tendencies and the absence of his "will" stat shows.

a good litrpg book with a interesting world build

ever just have a dead sleep and miss super important messages? well, that's the main character! lol he has to make best with given "gifts" in a apocalypse style world. I can't say more on that or spoil the goods
the narration is well done and in a voice that can be made out well with good audio
the main character has his flaws that make it interesting to see what he will do with a mess of different elements agenst him and friends/allys the ending? well that makes me impatient to get the next book can't wait

Awesome

Okay at first i was kinda afraid it was going to be one of those stories that lower the IQ of the MC just to make it funny but no it was just trying to portray how of out of his deep the mc was at the beginning but after he gets some experience fighting the comedy act goes down, there's still some comedy but not at the expense of the MC and the story ends up being a harsh one where people are not safe at all. and at the end i recommend this one to any fan of the tower climbing genre.

I jumped into this not expecting much, wow was I surprised. This was one of the best books I’ve read this year, I’m so impressed with this author. Jonathan waters is a fantastic narrator and he did not disappoint in this role.

Wow! Looks like a great start.

A great start to a system apocalypse LitRPG with no spice.
Great world system and power ups with the "gods" watching, interfering and playing favorites.
Can't wait for book 2.
I'm giving this book 7 out of 5 stars.

Still listening but this hits the right notes

Okay, so I'm still listening to the book. I'm about 5 hours in and, I gotta say, this is hitting all the spots on my LITRPG bingo.

* Interesting premise - The idea that the MC just sleeps through class selection is hilarious. That he's kind of rewarded for it is doubly so.

* MC is not a snowflake - The MC isn't special. The system gave him a good class mostly as a joke. Aside from that, he's just making good choices. Granted the ability to heal at all in this world does give him quite the lead, but not like a legendary power or whatever.

* Loot - There's some fun loot here and there, but the user isn't drowning in it. There's enough for that progression itch to be scratched.

* People - While the MC starts alone, we see other characters. I might be weird, but I get almost lonely if I go through a whole book following only the MC and there's no sense of civilization. This book strikes a good balance.

* System Snark - This is a common trope and if you like it, you like it. I prefer my systems snarky to the max. You get the impression that the system is just having fun with everything and treats the entire "you're world has ended and been assimilated" with very little care for humanity. It's like a creature that likes to play with its food. I definitely get some dungeon crawler carl vibes here.

I can't say much on the class front. The MC has an interesting class that doesn't seem too OP, but is better than the basic ones we've seen others have.

So far I'm just enjoying the ride. The MC isn't brilliant, but they aren't stupid either. The idiot MC trope is definitely avoided.

Verdict: I definitely recommend this. It's been a fun ride so far and I'm hoping we get more story arcs as the MC progresses the floors.
