Monsters don’t fear the dark. They fear him.

Velik was changed by a childhood encounter he still struggles to understand. Now he’s something else—faster, deadlier, and armed with a unique class built for one thing: hunting monsters.

For ten years, he’s braved the frontier alone, cutting down every beast that threatens the border towns. With each kill, he’s grown stronger, gaining levels and sharpening his skills on the thousands of monsters infesting the wild lands.

But something’s wrong. The monsters are coming faster, stronger, and Velik’s losing ground. The arrival of a guild hunter brings more complications, as the gold-ranked hunter seems more curious about Velik than the monsters he’s been hired to kill.

With time running out, Velik must venture deeper into the woods, facing deadly creatures while searching for the source of the threat. But what he finds isn’t just a nest. It’s a secret—one that could explain what happened to Velik ten years ago.

Something in the dark remembers him…and it’s been waiting.

great beginning

Interesting enough that I continued to listen, the narrator was very droll and had a relaxing voice. I had to keep busy or I would fall asleep, not a bad narrator just a very soothing voice to me.

Pretty good book

It’s a bit descriptive and that can take a minute but it’s written well and enjoyable. The world and system and easy to understand and the twist is nice.
The narrator did a good job and it was all
Easy to listen too.
Looking forward to the next book.

Enjoyable

the only thing wrong was sometimes lose track of the split off between the monster killers

Story through out reminds me Edgar Rice Bourouhs

The narrator's performance is what I'd called "muted", but not a monotone. If I had to choose, I'd pick that over someone who tries too hard to inject emotion into every sentence, because that just wears me out. Still, the muted performance does affect the overall tone of the story, which is calm.

Overall, the story is wholesome; all the characters are good people and heroic in their own way.

The narrator is fine

Enjoyed the book and will definitely continue the series. The performance was mediocre at best though and didn't add anything to the overall story. Hopefully the narration improves in the next book.

Good book. Lackluster performance.

I read a lot of LitRPG and this was refreshing. I found the beginning to be interesting. I enjoyed the story being contained in a LitRPG world. This isn’t novel but there are too many quick isekai starts in books. I found the story to be compelling and the game system to be well thought out. The story had some surprises along the way too. The narration was really good. Great read!

Very well written!

I once saw a teenage mage fight the moon, now I've seen a teenage hunter fight a boar, a spider, and a dog. 10/10 can't wait for the next several books!

Came from an Eternal Mage, not disappointed

Honest Review Warning ⚠️

(If any of you have read my reviews before then you will know that I give more of a realistic even sometimes emotionally connected to the character's review of the story. I don't try to add anything into it.That isn't a part of the book. So i'm not going to include my personal beliefs, and i'm not going to include any politics.I'm simply going to tell you exactly what is in this book versus what I think about it.)

When I first read, they were using this book.I was very curious because it sounds like a book that I would like very much. I love a strong character it doesn't bend his morals to the first vertical taco that he comes into contact with, and does it bend to the whole feministic ideology. I don't like the whole feminine aspect of men and I like the fact that it was going to be a hacking slash with the prospect of a future while building up the character and the main cast.

Some of the reviews say that it was pure hacking slash and it didn't have any character building that is incorrect. what they should have said was there is a very limited number of characters. There's only 4 characters in the book they're ever going to go into. So if you're expecting there to be a very diverse and very open world aspect of a litrpg, this is not a book for you. they did a wonderful job of explaining exactly why the main character is the way that he is.And it's kind of a mentor protege type aspect from two different viewpoints that I think the writer did wonderfully. it does become a little bit one-dimensional, because about 70% of the book is just him doing internal dialogue. Trying to get through the mental degradation and abuse that he's been through since he was 7 years old. that's probably where the writer lost most of the people reading the book. it is true. It does get repetitive, especially considering the fact that he's killing thousands of monsters in a week. And it will be just him for 5 chapters with no other introduction to any other aspects of the story. but I think that that's on purpose.I don't believe the writer did that by accident. And I don't think it's because of lack of experience. i think this book should have been a little bit shorter, and it probably should have been titled something along the lines of prolog to the adventures of type situation. because that's basically what it is.It's a very long introduction to what I truly do believe is going to be a great story about the main cast.

This book is not woke.It doesn't have any black lives matter. There's no feminism, there's no tropes about sexism or misandry. This is a straight up, a book about four characters that are eventually going to have to work together in order to achieve their goal. regardless of how much they do or do not want to. this is not a book about love. This is not a book about friendship. It's not a book about camaraderie or taking care of your fellow man. it's a book about survival.

I highly recommend this for anybody that likes solo leveling or books about a main character that does not compromise regardless of the situation. and if you make it to book two, you will be pleasantly surprised. The writer definitely opens up the character a lot more and you're rewarded for your patience from dealing with book one.

Definitely worth a read but it's a tough first book.

Goodness get another narrator, the performance was terrible. Killed the story for me. It was that bad.

Performance ruined the book
