way the story is told is annoying

generally I like most power fantasy stories, this one I found annoying.
the plot armor is ridiculous, MC is about to die then something happens just as he's about to die and the second before death the plot saves him with a convenient upgrade.
Also the story seems really dragged out, even going back in time to tell events in the past that dont add anything.

entertaing

use of same description many times over. example he uses in a heartbeat alot. could use a 10th of a second, lightning fast ect.

Cool concept

I like the unique skill that lead to an OP MC. The book got a little formulaic with the monster hunter and skill harvesting but it was an entertaining formula. The narrator did a good job. I’m interested in the second book.

I really liked this one

It is a standard power fantasy but the plot isn't solely reliant on the MC's progression and it maintains a degree of mystery without feeling like it stifled the story.
Some of the back and forth time jumps were a bit annoying, they supplied background info with reasonable delays. I am looking forward to book 2.

Great first book

This is a great start to a new series and it all comes around in the end. Can't wait for book 2. If I had any complaints it would be that sometimes things are drawn out entirely to long but some of that is because the narration is pretty slow. I don't like speeding up my audio books but 1.2 speed honestly felt like normal speed from other books. Narration is good other than that.

Liked it better than I thought I would

MC is likable just a little contradictory with his study and experience. Blue mage trend in line with most series.
Quirky system it as not as involved as DCC.
Fun first book and I will continue to follow the series

Fast-Paced LitRPG with Real Stakes and Growth

What a delightful audiobook.
The LitRPG elements are seamlessly woven into a compelling narrative built on a rich prison-world setting undergoing an apocalyptic transformation. The main character strikes a perfect balance — powerful, but still vulnerable — fully aware that he has a brief window to grow before the real monsters (both literal and metaphorical) come hunting.

The pacing is excellent, with skill progression that feels earned, not rushed. Side characters add depth and weight without stealing focus, and the world-building is strong without ever becoming overwhelming.

If you're a fan of Solo Leveling, The Primal Hunter, or the 1% Lifesteal genre, this book absolutely delivers. Highly recommended for LitRPG fans looking for action, strategy, and high-stakes evolution.

I binged this over the course of 3 days. Love the unique system and different talk on stealing skills. I can’t wait for the next one!

I love this book so much. It’s like the best book I’ve ever read.

I think everybody should read this book. It’s such a good book that I just have no words to describe how much I love it.

Took 120 words for what could have been said in 20 at the start of the book.

Over all it was nice but that far Gary g style of narration isn’t for me. Also just seemed like a lot of wasted time over expressing situations.
