The Exlian Syndrome Box Set (Books 1-3) by Seth Ring, bestselling author of Titan and Battle Mage Farmer

Level up. Lock and load. Survive the invasion or become the next monster.

When the alien Exlian invade, humanity’s only hope lies with the empowered, those rare few granted supernatural abilities. Mark Fields isn’t one of them. He’s a dishwasher with broken dreams, no powers, and even less luck.

Until a dying stranger changes everything.

Suddenly, Mark has what he’s always wanted: the power to fight back. To prove himself. To rise. But as he joins the Defense Force and begins to level up, he quickly learns that the System hides secrets of its own—and that monsters aren’t always alien. Some wear human faces.

From the brutal training camps of Advent to the wilderness battles of Dark Dawn, and the deadly depths of Apex, Mark’s journey is one of constant evolution. Every kill brings experience. Every upgrade unlocks new abilities. But with greater power comes darker choices, and the line between man and monster grows razor thin.

As the Exlian threat spreads and corruption festers within humanity’s last defenses, Mark must decide what kind of hero he’s willing to become and how much of himself he’s willing to sacrifice.

Packed with explosive progression, intricate skill systems, and high-octane alien warfare, The Exlian Syndrome Box Set, which includes Advent, Dark Dawn, and Apex, delivers three full-length novels of relentless action and power-driven adventure from one of the masters of modern LitRPG.

By the third book, things are completely different then the world introduced in the first book, mechanically speaking. There no blatant plot holes I noticed, but many important things are discussed/brought up once then forgotten forever. Many of his abilities changing to be what the author wants aa any given time and others being extremely underutilized. Ever since book one where he got bone blades from an E ranked beast he never upgraded or used anything else. Also, he powered up with 4 elixirs in the first book and hasn't drunk a single one since then, even though the author stated they can increase power by close to 100%. The MC is constantly giving away secrets for no reason and for little to no gain. In the third book especially his personality is really weird. Like he acts like a sheltered teenager would, then becomes a hardened killer then back again. He keeps pin-balling around and he gets scared of things that he didn't get scared of before. His personality is rather inconsistent. The characters keep getting swapped out and the only character to actually stick through a whole book is his cat who is very underutilized as a character. Also, he keeps accruing grudges and has only settled one out of half a dozen which is very disappointing. He makes a point of remembering people who messed with him but never gets revenge. The future sight/prophesy near the end of the third book is really stupid and makes no sense as a power. Which is common as in the second book there is a really silly power called quantum clone which is just author misunderstanding what quantum means, not to mention that power changes massively throughout the series for no reason at the drop of a hat.
If you don't mind the bumpy ride and ignore the paper thin world, the story is fun. Treat it like the junk food of reading or a marvel film.
